Last week we agreed it's important to have goals (https://steemit.com/life/@emag/the-importance-of-goals), but where we are wrong when setting them?
I'm asking that because it often happens to have goals and no results. What's happening from wanting to doing?
1.Focusing on what you don’t want
This highlights that when we trying to decide on our goal you must remember to concentrate only on the things that you do want – you need to really want the goal and believe in it in order to be able to achieve it.
2.Not taking responsibility
Another mistake we often make when thinking about a new goal is that we think of it in terms of what we want other people to do. The reality is, we cannot control anything that other people do, we can only control our own feelings, behaviour and actions. We are the only one who can achieve our goal so we have to take responsibility for our actions, not give control to someone else. Obviously, we can talk about how to delegate, but this is another perspective not really relevant to this topic.
3.I’ll start tomorrow...
Some of us are great at setting ourselves goals but then never we follow through. We suddenly realise that we have a lot of work to do in order to reach our goal. We start making excuses, for example we are too busy, we are not clever enough or we couldn’t afford it, and very quickly manage to convince ourselves that the status quo is not so bad and a lot easier to stick with than taking the necessary action to achieve our goal. This sort of procrastination often comes from fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of the amount of work required or even fear of failure or, worse fear of success. It’s a huge step forward when we acknowledge this fear and then make positive use of its energy.
If you believe that you are procrastinating and not taking steps to live your dream, try asking yourself the following questions:
• What is stopping me from doing this?
• Do I want this to run my life?
• What are the advantages of going after my dream now?
4.Not being able to visualise the end result
Related to the last mistake is creating a goal that is either too vague or too general. This makes it difficult to break the goal down into action steps and visualise the end result. A key to achieving our goals and dreams is to have a clear picture in our head of what it is we want and reading our goal daily help us to do this and stay focused.
5.Not having a deadline
Having no clear deadline often leads to procrastination and in the worst case, the end goal is never reached. It is important to think carefully about the timing of our goal. Our deadline must also be realistic and achievable so that we do not get stressed by putting too much pressure on ourselves.
What do you think about?
Always keep smiling!
