Presenting is the act or process of showing/explaining/demonstrating the content of a topic to an audience.

Presentation is a planned and deliberate method of communication created with a specific goal in mind.

Here are some presentation fears:

  1. How can I get them to listen to me?
  2. How can I keep their attention?
  3. Why am I so nervous?

Here are three basic tips to effective communication :

A. Prepare
B. Deliver
C. Review

  1. Preparation: This is the first and most important step. Proper presentation prevents presentation predicaments.

Tips to preparation:

  • Determine the purpose of your presentation.
  • Identify your audience
  • consider the setting(place).
  • outline your message.
  • Select a tool medium (powerpoint, board etc).
  • Create your presentation.

Presentation Outline:

  1. Opening
  2. Transition
  3. Closing

Tips and guidelines:

  1. Strong Opening statement to engage your audience; e.g: Shocking statistics, Powerful quote, Deep question.
    For example:
"Do you know that 6 people die of malaria every 10 minute".

  2. Transition: This is how you deliver your message to the audience.
Message: This is what you want people to know or be able to do after the presentation.

  • Highlight key words and definitions.
  • use relevant examples and visuals (diagrams, videos etc).
  1. Strong closing statement: For a memorable finishing.
    You can use:
  • powerful quote
  • clear action steps
  • Concise summary.
  • Brilliant recommendations

    C. Review Presentation
Did you achieve your desired objectives?
  • Audience feedback and questions help you evaluate whether your points were clearly communicated.
  • Action/inaction of audience might be an indication of presentation effectiveness.
  • Don't beat yourself up if you don't achieve your goal. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

Thank you.
