Horchata in Las Fallas (Valencia, Spain)

in #life7 years ago

Hi everyone!

This last 19 March, Las Fallas of Valencia were ended!

So these days, I was to the center for watch the mascletàs of the Town hall. Not without before picking up a drink: horchata.

There are many foods and dishes that are typical of our land, but in terms of drink highlights the horchata.

Horchata is a refreshing drink made with ground water, sugar and tiger nuts. Tigernuts are tubers from a plant commonly called countersunk sedge (Cyperus esculentus).
In addition to these ingredients, cinnamon and lemon can also be added. It's said that the drink comes from ancient Egypt, as well as the tiger nuts were taken by Persians and Arabs as a dessert due to its digestive and disinfectant properties:

  • Rich in minerals: phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron and vitamins (C and E)
  • It provides numerous enzymes that facilitate digestion
  • Its energy value is 100 kcal per 100 grams
  • Low sodium
  • Reduces cholesterol
  • Does not contain lactose or casein nor gluten. Some commercial brands add milk protein.
