In these the waning days of the "old" year, I'm hearing a lot of people planning New Years resolutions to begin sometime next year. As for me, 2025 is NOW. I've had this feeling since the summer of "why put off for tomorrow what you know you damn well should be doing RIGHT NOW, right?
So I got started, and haven't looked back.
This was sparked a few years ago by a news article that I was reading about and old hooker from LA. She always promised that she would stop turning tricks and would announce a date for doing so in the future.
In her mid 30s, she said she'd leave the prostitution game when she turned 40. After blowing past that (no pun intended), she set a new date for 50.
You can see where this is going...
By the time I read the article, she was in her early 60s and promised herself she'd quit the worlds oldest business by the time she turned 70.
So the pattern we see developing here is to always set a date far enough ahead so that you don't have to take any actual action today. You feel me?
So why should I wait until January 1st to do something good for myself that I can take action on immediately? You could get run over by a cement mixer, so the sooner you get your ass in gear, the better.
Start your New Year Today
We all know the people who'll say they'll wait until the first of the year to start losing weight or stop smoking. "Tomorrow" usually lasts just a few days into the new year if it ever comes at all.
Actually taking action as opposed to planning to is what separates the doers from the I'll-stop-streetwalking-when-I'm-50 crowd, when you know damn well you're gonna be shaking that worn out ass of yours for decades to come.
And to any actual "ladies of the night" who might actually read this, honey, you need to let that thing air out and start living the new you.
So if you're "planning" the annual "New Years Resolution" that you'll never really get around to starting, I challenge you to start it today, so that you can breeze into 2025 and proudly say: "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" I'll see you round the bend. ;)
