About once or twice every year my brother organizes a night out with his friends to see them all together.
I know all of them very well.
They used to be over at our house when I grew up every night playing cards for years.
It was a nice time.
Over time I have slowly morphed from "My brother's, little brother" to Mark.
I'm about 4 years younger than most of them.
But age differences matter less and less the older you get I have noticed.
We started in a bar in the center of Rotterdam around 19:00.
Niels, one of the guys I workout with was the 'jar' for the night.
It's pretty simple, everyone gives him money, he pays all the bills and when he runs out of money you give him more.
It's a great system. Nobody counts. Nobody judges.
The beers kept coming. The atmosphere was great.
An hour later we made our way to the restaurant.
My brother booked a table in a small place called Roffa.
Upon entering the place I saw this. I was instantly happy as you can imagine. A bbq smoker inside the restaurant!
We sat down at a nice wooden table and more beers were ordered.
For food, we opted for the option that was recommended by the owner.
3 rounds of plates looking like this.
Starting with 'light' meat. Chicken wings, sausage and pulled pork working our way up to intense smoke 'fall off the bone' BBQ ribs.
I had about 1 second to take the picture above. Because anarchy quickly followed.
I don't think my brother could have picked a better place to make simple men happy.
Beer, meat, and friendship.

Great time you guys had. You know, I was just thinking. You said all the members of @blockbrothers grew up in the same neighborhood and 4 of you guys are friends, and now your brother has like 6 friends, that is like 10 guys in all, and other guys in the neighborhood had their own friends, and their brothers had their own friends too, it seems the parents in that neighborhood have a rare gift of giving birth to guys only.
That neighborhood would surely be a very lively one when you guys were much younger. A neighborhood with this amount of young boys must have surely been a vibrant one. You guys sure had a neighborhood football team, and you @exyle was probably the goalkeeper (your huge nature would ensure no ball dares enter the goal post). Just my thoughts running wild though.

As @exyle's mother, I can assure you that there were really many boys in the neighborhood. Our house was a kind of center in those days. I can't remember how many posts of thee I made in that time. (thee, not beer, they were a lot younger then)!
Lol, sure they could not have had beer at such a young age. I know that feeling of having your house as the center of their meeting. The house would always be full and lively. It was the same for me when I was much younger too.
But just a little question, is 'thee' a beverage or soda drink in Netherland? I've not heard of it before. And if it is, you sure made their stay in your house much much fun. That's so Kool.
Sorry, I meant tea. 'Thee' is the Dutch word for tea. The pronunciation is almost the same.

Close friendships don’t just happen – you make them happen. Kudos on that. This is good fun with gokd friends. Maintaining relationships is a hard, endless slog. There are pressures on our time from work and family, and i see this didnt weigh dowm your closeness.
No amount of social media will prevent a friend eventually becoming “just another acquaintance” if you don’t meet face-to-face from time to time.”
I really like this. Wish you guys more closeness and more life together.

The more you grow older, the more mature you get, and age, especially with a close difference of 1-5 years matters little.
And I must say @exyle, from all your posts I've read, you seem to be a real lover of meat. I love them too.

It may seem simple enough, but it can be easy to forget that seeing friends on your newsfeed doesn’t really count. The truth is that it is easy to stay connected with technology, but it is hard to emotionally keep in touch. Memories are made when you spend time with others. We have a similar thing here to the jar, we call it the kitty (weird I know) and whoever has the kitty gets all the money and buys all the stuff then lets us know when we need to put in more. It does work great!
The kitty! I learn something new every day on here. Is it a local thing? or used in the whole UK?
I think its mostly Scottish. So if in Scotland you cant go far wrong if you suggest Will we start a kitty? Might get odd looks elsewhere in the UK lol
When friends (especially childhood friends) gather together, it's always a lovely time.
The trio combination of a drink, meat, and companionship is the secret formula to having a wonderful time.
This kind of outing is one of the simple things of life that adds somuch spice to life. It makes living a wonderful experience. It does not cost somuch, but yet produces so much result and effect.
I guess as the youngest, you had to be the one taking the pictures, at least they found something for the youngest guy to do. Lol
dude, you eat some seriously good bbq meats a lot! :) bulk up on that meat lol! just looking at these pics has me missing austin, tx with all the bbq places there, that's where i was first introduced to all of that goodness that is brisket ;)

Nice tale of good times. The bbq looks ok, but somehow I suspect it would suffer in comparison to Texas beef of Carolina pork. Maybe I'm biased.
I tend to agree. I never had one but I have seen videos and it looked insane.
So, I guess the location for next @blockbrother’s meeting is settled then.

if you go to the bay area there is a korean bbq buffet called GEN. it has plenty of meat that you cook for yourself. you got to check it out!

Good one @exyle. You are really a fun loving guy and i admire it the more because you work hard and also have fun aftermath. A great way to relax. Friends are the best. Many people I have met have never experienced a deeply connected group, and wish they could. I believe having a special group does not have to be left to chance or random circumstance — it can be consciously created at every layer of relationships in your life. We need layers of connections in order to feel whole. We need good food and barbeque. :)

If you’ve ever had really good friends(and if you have you are blessed) then you know what I’m talking about. True friendship is unique, and enduring.
The passage of time may relocate us, change us, distract us, and even make us lose track of one another (at least in the daily life kind of way.) But there is no denying the special bond between close friends. In a mere moment back together it is like no time has passed, even if you have changed a lot since that time, you will be reminded of the path that it took to get you where you are. So excellent post and great outing.
When you're with the boys, there is no time to take pictures of the food. We're like a hungry pack of wolves.
This is so wonderful. When I saw the first picture, I noticed the guy behind you who had his mouth opened to pose for the photo. I guess he was sure having a wonderful time.
Your brothers friends are sure cool guys,and you sure blended in with them.
I love the idea of friends getting together at least once a year to have fun, laugh over our childhood memories, gist about life, and share our plans for the future.
I will surely put this into practice with my friends. It's such a lovely idea that actually does not cost much, but gives a good outcome.
Wow this is sometging fantastic. I am feeling hungry fom that meat. You really have quality friends atound you. You guys know how to keep friendships and you guys make it look effortless. Over here where i stay, its not that easy. But i guess i learnt a lesson from this though.
So to all of you — this is a call to action: Call those old friends! Shoot them a text or write an email. Then book a flight, or find a train or a bus or plan that driving trip. If travel isn’t an option: at least schedule a lengthy Skype session! But by all means: Don’t put off connecting with your old friends! You need it more than you even realize!
@exyle,this should count in as one of your best years. You just keep having one reason to celebrate or the other. Another celebration has been added to the list,and we are not yet in Christmas. Am glad you had a lovely time.
I know for certainty that there is no way the discussion there would come to a close without you bringing up the crypto topic, especially steemit, and most recently SMTs. I know you as a person that thinks crypto, sleeps crypto, and talks crypto.

This makes me want to drive 5hrs to see my bestest “old” friends tomorrow!! I so wish I could. It is so nice to be able to feel like no time has past and just pick up where we left off. The only sad part is that each visit never seems to be long enough. 😢

Sure, it happens everywhere. As siblings grow older, the age thing matters less and less, especially for guys. Ladies tend to hold unto it much longer. If you check closely at some of the relationships you have now, you don't really care to know the ages of some of the people, but yet you can still be close with them. It was when we were much younger that we bothered ourselves about that.
The food looks really inviting. It reminds me of that sushi you had with Bianca the other day.
