"If I send you the right amount of money can you buy a Bitcoin for me". - MOM

in #life7 years ago

It's not often that I get flappergasted by a WhatsApp message but today was one of those days.

"If I send you the right amount of money can you buy a Bitcoin for me". - MOM

Staring in disbelieve at the message I decided to give her a call.

I had to call her anyway because I forgot to call her for her birthday yesterday. Horrible..I know. I did send a message but that's not the same. Even being distracted by Pizza day with my nieces is no excuse for that.

Luckily she couldn't care much about it..she just liked that I called. Pew....

Now my mom is a very wise woman so I didn't want to bug her about whether she was sure or not about it. I already knew she had made up her mind.

I just wanted to make sure she knew about the risk factor. It's after all a volatile investment. And we are also around an all time high.

She knew.

She wants it as a long term investment and even knew about the upcoming potential split (that's hopefully averted.)

We talked for a while about a lot of stuff. In the end, she said she would transfer the money to me today.

I was in the gym when the money arrived. She had transferred me the money for 1 BTC at the current price value.

Sadly when I got home the BTC price had already gone up around 50 euro. I bought the 1 BTC after sending her a message about it.

While writing this 5 hours later the price has gone down 60 euro. A small swing but somehow it does more to me than it normally does but that's because she's now invested.

So miners when you read this my mom is now invested so make it right, please :)

Thank you!

I've been getting this from a (contemporary) lady friend of mine as well. Honestly, one of the main reasons you can tell the crypto market is not a bubble is because it's still darn near impossible to move substantial amounts of money in and out quickly (depending on your jurisdiction - that's how it is in the US.)

That's an incredible story man. I remember when you were talking about how it was difficult talking about Steemit and crypto with your family, but it looks like your knowledge and passion has stoked their curiosity and garnered their respect in this area.

It's one thing to emotionally condition yourself against the swings of the market, but quite another when someone you love is also at risk. I hope all goes well and she sees fabulous gains on her BTC. One really cool thing now is, this gives you and her another thing to share and discuss together. Knowing how passionate you are about crypto, that brings a smile to my face brother! Really cool indeed. Congrats!

Thanks, man! Talking crypto has always been difficult with my family but they are slowly defrosting :). Steemit has been a blessing making everything more real.

Isn't it amazing to get the older generation invested in crypto? I set my mom up with a Bittrex account a few months ago and she owns an alt that I think (hope) will do really well for her. It's already grown 8x her initial investment, which was very small.

That's a nice return on investment! Awesome man!

Yeah, as they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Lol! It was just a lucky break. They will, hopefully, be able to buy a new vehicle when it matures. Their Jeep is 20 years old so it is time. : )

You deserve a vote my man @exyle.
It is good to spread the knowledge about crypto.
Your mom just cemented the idea that bitcoin is the future.
Always good and genuine post.
Keep on steemit !!

Thank you!

Your mom is a wise woman indeed. BTC is a great investment, along with Steem.

I agree! Given enough time.

You should have recommended Steemit to your MOM... By investing STEEM in the minnowbooster bot which delegates steem power and can expect roughly 100% return per year, even without the need of blogging ,posting or curating.

Don't worry I am Exyle mother and I have steem because I also write on Steemit!!
Check @Clio

Great.. following you now!

I have opted this idea. But she wanted BTC before the fork. Talking about living on the edge :)

Interesting and funny, my son called me yesterday and asked if he could buy some crypto from me. It turns out he had been discussing it with his sister.

Interesting times.

I wish your Mom the best of luck in her investment!

What a coincidence! Interesting times indeed!

Wow what an eye opener when you get a message like that, unless mom is trolling you haha

It's done, so it's real :)

@exyle I would def buy my mom some btc, I mine doge coin for my little brother haha hopefully it goes to a dollar and he'll be a rich man when he gets older.

I also have dogecoin! But remember 1 doge will always be 1 doge.

Haha your mom invested in BTC?
It's sad she decided to invest now, considering it rose like $900 in a few days with the segwit drama and all.

All in all, after august 1st, I think it'll rise significantly.
Here's hoping your mom makes a profit! :D

Depends on how you look at it. If you believe it will go to $10K it doesn't really matter that much. She wan't to hold it for least 5 years.

The same here... To my surprise my mom invested in BTC too lol.
Moms always know what's good and what's not...

Awesome!

It's great to see your mum is very wise and humble. If I ever let my mums birthday slip past my mind she would go bezerk and throw a scene haha

It is really cool how your mum has been looking into cryptocurrency
Very wise of her just to buy one and let it sit for a long time investment. Did she see John McAfee's tweet by any chance? haha

Well let's hope bitcoin keeps climbing so your mum can have a huge smile on her face @exyle :)

Let's hope so man, and thanks for all the awesome and well thought out comments you always leave behind!

Just this morning @aggroed published post - why 60 years old shoud start to invest in crypto. Let your mom know about it. And relax, you are good sun)

Cool Mom, cool Son.

Ultimately it's just a form of savings. Hold it for 5 years. All or nothing, don't worry about the fluctuations. As long as your express this to family you won't be emotionally 'tweaked'... With OPM.

Good advice. I totally agree. Long term holding is key.

First of all, belated Happy B'day to your Mom. I wish her all the health and blessings. She must be a great woman. And I am surprised to read that she even knew about the bitcoin split. She's very informative and updated woman. I wish all the success for her Investment and I hope bitcoin will rise exponentially. Thank you @exyle for this conversation with us.

Yeah, they had better do the right thing!! Hehe, your mum is quite cool!

Something similar happened to me yesterday too!

My mom asked me how she can buy bitcoin. I walked her through everything and helped her setup a coinbase account. She still says that she doesn't understand anything about it, but she understands the opportunity and potential Bitcoin has.

That was enough for her to ask me for help. XD Love my mom!

You mom sounds cool! Crypto moms!

Wow, that is something to get flabbergasted over for sure. I never see my mom doing that. Money is too precious to her.

My twinsister - who has little money - heard me talk about bitcoin and cryptos once. Soon afterwards, she called me and asked me to invest 1000 euros of her money in cryptos.

I was only into cryptocurrency for a month or so by then, but I accepted. It added quite a lot of stress to me, as I'm not just risking my own money. It's worth the risk though and I hope I can one day return it to her with way more value. I feel like I'm investing in her future and this empowers me to do something I could never do before.

Your mom rocks!

Thanks for your story and good luck investing. I no longer day trade, just buy and hold.

I'm trying not to daytrade either or should I say 'ether' ?
Life as a filmmaker is stressful enough as it is ;)

They say that an asset has reached bubble proportions, when cabbies and your mom, are interested in the investment..

I don't think we are there yet. But it sure is something to watch out for.

Short and sweet !
Beautifully written .
Its really nice post as you always comes with best post.
👍👍👍👍👍

Awww! That is truly the most awesome msg I bet! When parents start caring about things such as BTC, it really feels different compared to when anyone else talks about it.

For instance, my mom said she wishes she invested in Bitcoin a year ago!
I was shocked she was even keeping up with stuff like this!

Proud son moment for you I bet :) @exyle

That is awesome your mom wants to buy some bitcoin and more than likely that is because of you!! :) now let's get those miners in gear and have everything go nice and smooth from here on out!! :)

That's a good choise!

Yup! hahaha... Sounds good :)

And your mother does not want to buy Steem? :)

Dude, that's so awesome. I wish my parents to buy some bitcoin. :)

First like n comment.

I wish my mom knew about the fiat money system scam haha. Your mom definitely knows whats up! Even though Bitcoin is pretty high right now, I still would buy for long term investment.

she lost time

My parents want to buy crypto also, but they're stuck in a place with no internet. I've thought of buying for them but wondering what the tax implications of them transferring me money, buying in my exchange, then transferring to their exchange once they get it going? Have you thought about taxes?

This is great. Soon, Bitcoin will be "must have" for everyone.

Great story. What a cool mom you have.

Cryptocurrency is the future, baby boomers dont want to be left behind. Lol

I brought it up with the Secret Bitcoin Council. They promised to make it right.

yeah been there with the price swing, welcome to our world mom!

Great stuff, I wrote a post about trying to get my father to invest, check it out if you like :)

Your mum is one smart lady, bitcoin will continue to grow and she will be glad she invested. Thank you for sharing the story :)

Aw! I'm a mom and I support yours for jumping in. If she wanted it for long term - today is not the issue :)

Looking forward to the day I have 1 BTC. Maybe one of those Gold Coins with a Bitcoin imprisoned inside of it like General Zod in the Phantom Zone.

Happy investing hope for best.

Hey @exyle! I'm a mannequin and I bought some bitcoins too ;-)
... yeah... hope the miners make it right ;-)

This is so wonderful to see your mom updated in the cryto world.

I also bought Bitcoin for investment. My children couldn't believe it and wanted to know from me what it is all about. Needless to say, they also invested in Bitcoin!

With this being said.. Your mom's a real lady-boss! :P

I just read your blog my dear son. I enjoyed it very much and also all the comments you got on this story. It was definitively a conscious choice for me to let you buy a bitcoin for me. I also want to invest in Steem, since I am a member and a believer in the future of Steemit. I will resteem your story and when your followers should read this, I am @clio. Thank you all for your nice words and your congratulations on my birthday!!

"flappergasted" I'm totally going to use that one! Yes, I have family and friends coming out of the 'wood work' asking all sorts of crypto questions. As if I wasn't busy enough

great little story..
And i hope your MUm is peaceful today after a bit of a dip! i get the feeling from your post that she wont be too stressed out.. Going long is the best way to avoid any daily panics.. (in theory)...

Best of luck to u!
