Yesterday the Steemit team released on update here.
The blogpost is about what has happened in the past, what they did right and wrong, and what's coming in the future.
The priorities are still the same:
Right now, our top priorities are blockchain scalability (AppBase), Communities (Hivemind), effortless onboarding (sign up + Hardfork 20), and Smart Media Tokens (SMTs). So much progress has already been made, and we are working around the clock to deliver them as soon as we can.
Now, there wasn't anything really new in the blogpost for users that follow the development of the Steem blockchain from day to day but there is a ton of info for the ones that don't.

I do like the fact that they promised they will release more of these updates in the future.
Steem price has come down a bit overnight. Not to much about 15%. But to be honest the price of STEEM is less of a concern to me then it used to be. (although don't get me wrong, I do feel a little better when it goes up)
Lately I am more into growth numbers on the blockchain. And they look very good.
This week we had + 60k active members on the blockchain every day and also the powerdown statistics are starting to look better again with 300k STEEM vested in the last 4 days.

Looking cold but sounding in a good mood today man, despite the markets falling a bit overnight.
Had the same 'oh' feeling as you when I looked at the @steemitblog post yesterday, we are waiting for the new stuff to arrive!
But yeah, it was much more comprehensive than it has been in the past, and even though no dates are mentioned, at least it gave a full picture of what is still in progress.
I also appreciated the admission that not everything has been great, with a particular mention to communication. Glad to hear that this has received some focus and is likely to improve in future.

good morning, infact there are lot of fluctuation in the prices. Since I am newbie I still need to read have knowledge in this matter.
I read the post this morning and like taskmaster put it: I think it is the best communication we saw from the Steemit developers.
A lot have been put into this platform last year and we have hopes to see tons of new update in the nearest future. Kudos to the Steemit developers.

Awesome video! Thanks for the update! Glad to see the conclusion you reached with regards to the update. That I believe one of the first updates I've seen sense joining in mid December 2017. So, it was good for me. Now coming from your standpoint, I see that as well. For now I just have my eye on the APPICS ICO! From what I understand, it's the first SMT! If they can get something moving there, I'd be very interested to see what happens next! What do you think? Either way, if it drops I'm going to buy more all the way down to $0.30! Lol Hopefully it doesn't go that low! Thanks for the post!
The launch of Smart Media Tokens will be a real game changer..Smart Media Tokens will allow anybody with even no coding knowledge to launch a new tokens, allowing any and every application to have their own Steem like token.
Whenever I see updates from Steem or any platform on it, I genuinely feel excited and read the whole post. I guess that goes to show how much I care about the success of this blockchain.
The addition of communities is something that I am looking forward to the most. I think it is awful when your content get published, only to get lost in a sea of other content after a few minutes and you can barely get any more visibility after that from the public (unless they follow you).
I have a question that I hope you can answer. Is it possible (or will it be possible) to have your posting key changed to a personal password that you choose? As of now, all the passwords are a string of characters but I was thinking about when Steemit goes mobile, people should be able to log in easily for posting purposes using a user-entered password. The other passwords are good to have as a string of characters for security reasons, but for posting, maybe it would be better to just choose your own password so that you can log in easily from different devices.
I look forward to communities too. On your question: It's currently not possible and I don't think this will be possible in the future either. What is possible is scanning of the QR code representing the posting key. The app from @good-karma can do this for instance. It saves a lot of hassle.
Honestly, I feel the chill when I see steem going down but at the same time i am so much positive about its growth that i overcome that phase of nervousness pretty quick. It does hurt a bit as a trader with the drop in steem from $5. I find it interesting the shift in preference for SBD though. Nonetheless, as a trader it's more about the total picture than just price: more members, communication from devs, popular users from other platforms moving over all causes more long-term growth which will eventually reflect in the price.
Any plans for Steemify to be on Android, or a browser extension and desktop app?
Steemify is currently being developed for Android.
At first I post a lot, now I am more into got to know the background of the blockchain, steem etc... My only hope for steemdollar going high is to buy more steempower and return my contribution to the platform... I'm convinced this platform is here to stay, and I'm glad being a (tiny) part of it.....
I can't wait to see where Steem goes from here. It is exciting to be on the journey and sticking with something long-term. That is where success is found. It's found in committing to something and seeing it through. Long live Steemit!

Ned's post on the Steemit blog is a must-read for anyone interested in the future of the platform. I wasn't aware, for example, how much work has gone into the scalability of Steemit to prepare it for the next stage of growth. I think it's very important to always look for the positive.
I think they have done an amazing job so far. Of course, things can be improved, but looking at the timeframe they have setup a pretty amazing platform.
I'm always pretty amazed what has been achieved in just under 2 years.
I believe with you that STEEM tokens will go up in value because of the many developments which are happening especially with Smart Media Tokens (SMT). That will be an explosion. Upvoted!
My husbands the one primarily in the cryptosphere, but I use Steem and like him I've learned to just flow with the ups and downs of sbd. As long as people keep coming, the price right now is temporary!! Which makes me feel better LOL
i still have to read that so would definitely check that out but thanks for letting me know about that on the other hand steem is really doing well after the rise and standing tall in this hard time it will only go up from here one.
I was half expecting there to be a new announcement too but it's probably good that there wasn't, because there are still loads of things that need to be finished first. Personally I was happy to read the post and it was a nice summary of last year and also whats to come.
I haven't been looking at the price either. Long term is all I care about.

More communication will be great if they deliver on that promise. I think it was an upbeat, but somewhat cautious statement. Which means it's possible the dev team will overdeliver in 2018 - which would be awesome!
II wasn't aware of the multiple beneficiaries thing for posts/comments and don't believe I've seen it in use. Do you know of a use case of this feature?
Yes I do, When you post through dtube for instance. 25% of your reward (what your post makes) goes to dtube (the account). It's how developers can monetise their apps and frontends. I think that's great. They make awesome apps for us to make content with and they get rewarded (25%) when the person that creates content gets rewarded by using their app.
Ah ok, that makes sense and yeah it's a great incentive for talented developers to create new apps and frontends.

Really its very good piece of information and I am glad for there promise that they are working for the betterment of the price, but I am also glad that this price fall is less in percentage than bitcoin in the recent past.

Yeah looking at STEEM prices daily does make my head hurt but compare to the prices of Last years steem price does make me feel a lot better :)
