Steemfat: A commitment to nighttime gym sessions and a small reward.

in #life7 years ago

Going to the gym @ 20:00 is much harder than in the morning....it's true.

Especially in the seasons when the days get shorter.

But sometimes you don't have a choice.

A busy workday or 'reason X' prevents you from going earlier.

You have to go after dinner.

And it's that moment after you eat that's the hardest.

Your body and mind decide to collude against you.

'Let's sit on the couch, we are tired, it's ok to skip a session. Put your feet up. There is beer in the fridge!'

In these moments I taught myself to switch to autopilot. Don't think, don't feel, just do.

I take my bag with gym clothes put on a jacket, grab the keys and walk out the door.

Arriving at the gym walking through the dark cold weather I do wish I stayed home.

I swipe my gym card at the gate and get inside.

I put my stuff in a locker and walk to the exercise bike.

I start paddling.

My legs feel heavy. It will be the worst exercise ever.

But I tell myself, even the worst exercise is better than no exercise.

(I once heard someone say that and I never forgot. I took it to heart)

After 5 minutes I can feel a change in my mind and body. I feel more energy. I feel clearer.

I add extra resistance and paddle harder.

After 10 more minutes, I'm warmed up. I'm ready for leg day.

I do my exercises for the day and it's perfect. It feels good.

After everything is done I go to my locker and put on my jacket and walk out the door.

It's always a great moment.

I did it again! It's only a personal victory but it matters every time.

Coming home I take a shower. And now it's time to relax!

And for me, that's writing.

I did end up opening that beer halfway through though.

My mind told me I really deserved it and I went with it.

I'm not perfect by any means.

But o well..then I often think..who is? :)

Keep on steemit !

I don't know if you knew but testosterone levels are higher in the morning. I don't know if that will affect your gains ( I'll have to look that up) but it's something interesting to keep in mind.

But he can get angry, and improve his testosteron. Also, when you sleep, body produce growth hormone. Maybe it's good onece in a while to change time of training.

Arnold said that you need to shock your muscles. One training he starts from horisontal press, next from incline. Changing time could be useful too.

KEEP working.

A couple times a week I play hockey and typically once a week the game time is very late. We can have games starting at 11:30pm. Warm up is always slow moving as is the first 5 minutes of the game, but once everyones bodies wake up things are normal. The hard part is getting to sleep after a late game. Typically can't even think of falling asleep until after 2:30-3am.

Wow, that is very late to play hockey. That's near midnight right?

Yes it is. To get rink time for adults you kind of get stuck with some bad times. We play anywhere from 7pm to 11:30pm.

That's a great work-out shirt!!!

You can tell others that you are just blowing off steem.

Great order @exyle, although you made a decision on autopilot, but forced yourself to achieve results, but beer, this is a small reward :)

nice post @exyle, you are right no body is perfect in this world and i like to say that makes a mistake is not a problem but faking it's perfection makes it even worse, i really like your spirit and dedication man you really stick tightly with your workout routines and i am sure this hard work surely gives you great results, no doubt after completing work it's always a great feeling and it's only a personal victory but it really releases the stress and one's gain even more confidence, Stay awesome and happy my friend and wish you a very happy steemfest2, thanks for sharing

When it's hard for me, I always remind myself that if I give up, it will not be better. So I congratulate you on your excellent willpower.

if I give up, it will not be better.

Yes!

I think that you have to be on the stage @steemfest and show the hard work you done... maybe @jerrybanfield will use it in his act. lol

haha :) I doubt that man!

You never know, maybe @jerrybanfield will read this.. anyhow well done and have fun in Lisbon, hope to be there next year and meet you if I hopefully not be a minnow anymore..Or maybe we have a dutch meetup soon. we have a new discord group #thelionslegion

its not easy for sure but it is totally worth it :)

where there is will there is a way :)

I agree that it is harder at night... good for you! I can't get past the "beer in the fridge" at night... too tempting! Good write up.

Good post! If I want to drink beer, I just tell myself earn it and workout (bit of bike/cardio - which i normally avoid) for an extra 5 mins before heading home to put feet up.

So true!Exercising in the later part of the day is so much harder than first thing in the morning! Good for you that you are doing it anyways. I am going to go in an hour......

wow is a great post and advices for get a change you are using the migatte no gokui good appreciation, is when you have self-control

Night workouts are really tough...I love your dedication and determination. From your last fitness post it is clear your body is improving for the better :)

I've been waking up early in the morning to go work out (3:20 - 3:50) and it's not the same struggle, but the struggle is definitely real and the reward is just as victorious every morning.

It would be so easy to just roll over and turn the alarm off, but stay in bed.

"But I tell myself, even the worst exercise is better than no exercise." So very true, like running it doesn't have to be fast, or pretty, it just has to be, it has to happen or no progress will ever be obtained. Great advice about turning the reasons not to go off in your head and just pick up your bag, keys and head for the door. That is the vitory right there.

i say drink a lot of warm water with lime before you sleep!

Your hard work is gonna pay off buddy and in a good way :)

After everything is done I go to my locker and put on my jacket and walk out the door.

True, best moment. Second best moment when you eat yoghurt to get your proteins in.

Sometimes i find myself just going through the motions/routine to get to the gym. But i always have a great sense of satisfaction afterwards .

Good job!

I agree It's Difficult to work out in the Night , Even i go to the gym in the evening .Never Tried a Beer though (After Gym:P) .

It is very hard to get the motivation to work after doing a 9-5, not to mention the kids, wife etc. But I guess you make the time somehow. Thank for the reminder!

I don't have kids, it must be a lot harder to get it all done with them around.

Very good writing @exyle, You almost shared everything. And yes still we have to do these things to gear up in life.
and by the way to video today??..hehe..just a formal question.

I agree, it is hard to do anything in the night especially when you finished eating because i learnt that food makes the body heavy. But i like your determine to go to the gym regardless of anything. It is inspiring.

@exyle,
"even the worst exercise is better than no exercise"
I think you made a nice quote :D Yeah sometimes we had to take that hard decision! But if I were you I will not be there :D (Probably I am sleeping now) Yeah as always you gave me something think!

Cheers~

It's nice to know more about you @exyle. But when I used to go to gym my instructor always told us not to come just after having a lunch or dinner, it would do no good to your health. His whole point was to say to avoid gym after just having heavy foods.

Excellent thanks

Me gusta tu proyecto
Mucha suerte

Good for you continuing toward your goal.

Great post

Great Post.

Great Post.

i find it easier to do exercise if i prepare my clothes and shoes beforehand. so that when its time to go, i just immediately get my things and run off to the gym so that i dont have time to think if i should exercise or put it off.. hehe the steemfat journey continues.. keep it up bro! :)

Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.

To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.

To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as [steemit](https://steemit.com) Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.
