So, today is the third anniversary of the Steem blockchain. A pretty impressive landmark given how new actually crypto is as well as all the issues and problems that have arisen for us in the past. Oh no, we won't go down without a fight. And victorious STEEM has turned out to be. Our eco-system has never looked brighter as well as the future of this rock solid blockchain.
My wife's phone was alive with activity last night as she was conversing with numerous friends about the special date that is today. Three years ago to the day, the lofty visions of Ned Scott and Dan Larimer came to fruition. I joined a little under four months later and already the naysayers were in full swing. None more so than Tone Vays, who seemed hellbent on calling out STEEM as a scam. I remember they even had quite a heated debate about it via a live streamed YouTube video conference. But the duo held their own against Vays, who I must admit, is remains a divisive figure in the crypto space to this day.
But one of the main turning points in terms of recognition for this blockchain, was in the form of the very first Steemfest, which myself and the missus were lucky enough to attend. Although only taking place over what was essentially an extended weekend, I met so many awesome and like-minded people, won an award for "Best Original Story" for my blog, bore witness to literally the best ever crypto-related event I'd ever seen and made an incredible friend by the name of @exyle. Quite a life-changing sequence of events, I'm sure you'd agree. Suffice to say, if I wasn't already hooked to this platform, that surely solidified it as a huge part of my everyday life. And back then, Steemit was, in essence, the only platform we thought they'd be. No one could have imagined where we are today.
And the reality of that prospect is possibly even better! We have successful blockchain-based games such as Steem Monsters. A variety of Dapps to choose from like the fantastic Steemhunt, Partiko or APPICS, to name but a few. It's a thriving array of platforms all plugged into the mothership that is the STEEM blockchain. So if anyone had any reservations about if STEEM was the real deal or not (Mr. Vays, I'm looking at you!), then now's a good time to swallow your pride and admit you were wrong. I mean, it's not like the whole journey has been plain sailing all the way to this point. Not long ago, Ned made that shocker of an announcement where it was revealed to us that the company were in huge financial difficulties, leading to many layoffs. But the prime ingredient of this blockchain came to the rescue and in ways I could never have thought of. That ingredient being the strong community we have build up over time.
This arrived in the form of several huge brain-storming sessions over on Discord to assistance from a few key developers and witnesses to aid in offloading some of the strain Steemit Inc. were undertaking. The show of solidarity was a sight to behold. I doubt any other blockchain out there (including BTC) would answer a rally call as responsively and steadfast as Steemians do. Yes, we've come a long way and there is still so much more on the horizon. This is literally only just the beginning.
Three years ticked off the calendar, roll on the fourth. The above is but a mere glimpse into some of the historical landscape that has unfolded in the life of this impressive blockchain. What marvels are yet to come? Let's watch and find out. Happy Birthday, STEEM! To another year of evolutionary greatness!
