Growing up I used to collect vintage coins. I couldn't afford to purchase any but my grandfather had a few coins and he gave them to me. It was interesting and overtime I had maybe 20 different coins. Some were old and others relatively new from India and overseas.
The oldest coin I own is from British ruled India. It was an 18th century coin although I don't remember the date. I also have One Anna from the late 18th and early 19th century (if I remember correctly). They were hand-me downs to my maternal grandfather who kept them in his possession for many decades until he gave them to me.
Overtime I realised that there wasn't anyway I could expand my collection. I lived in a small city, there wasn't any way to procure anymore of these old coins. People who have them don't really let them go for free. So I decided to collect stamps instead.
I have an uncle who lives in US and I managed to get a few stamps from him. Many stamps were from across India. A couple of friends gave me some stamps from a couple of other countries where they had relatives. But other than dreaming of visiting some of these countries, I had no real motivation to keep collecting them.
Later in my teens when the motorcycling bug bit me I began collecting motorcycle scale models. I travelled to Bangalore for them and picked them from a store that sold Maisto brand of scale models. They were quite detailed but also expensive 13 years ago and I could only manage a handful from the money I had saved up and later when I moved cities it wasn't possible to lug them around so I left it there.
One thing that I stuck with were my books. I am a voracious reader and I read everything I can get my hands on or find interesting. I had a massive collection of comics which I donated to my school as I felt many kids would enjoy reading them as much as I did.
But, overtime I ended up with a large collection of books and I moved cities with them. It was expensive but I did it anyway. But it was impractical and ergo I switched to a kindle. So I stopped buying as many books as I used to. I w
I read way too much information on Steemit and on the internet in general in the last 2-3 years that by the end of the day, I don't have a lot of time for reading books anymore. But, ultimately I want to have a giant bookshelf with a ton of books and dedicated space for my collection on motoring.
Last year after my accident I was suggested to collect my boarding passes when I travel. It was around mid-july and I was just getting back to travelling after a hiatus.
This time I wanted to try this out for a year and see how many boarding passes I end up with. I used to crunch some serious miles every year touring on my motorcycle once. Now I fly around a lot as my hand hasn't recovered enough to ride motorcycles.
Yesterday, as I left on another trip I took out my boarding passes and found out that I have managed to collect around 70 passes. All paid for by myself. As a former motoring journalist, it was common to be flown around, flights and hotels paid for. But doing it yourself is a whole different ball game.
It's hard for me to sit idle and I can't stay put at any one location for too long. The desire to travel and the need to keep moving is rather strong. These 70 boarding passes and resulting travel have given me a lifetime of memories. When I sit and check the dates I have a ton of nostalgia.
Traveling is one of the greatest joys in life and if you can do it with some good friends or strangers for company it's even better. I travel around a lot to meet my close friends and spend time with them. Hopefully, my collection of boarding passes will cross 100 later in this year. Would be great if it did before July but i'll settle for whatever I can manage.
It's always good to spend your money on new experiences!

I collected coins as well. Just like you, my grandfather got me started. He gave me a few coins that dated back pretty far. After that I kind of went crazy and started collecting every coin that seemed halfway old. I would go through my lunch money and pull out the ones that seemed old or unique to me.
I don't really collect anything.
Once I collected stamps when I was a kid, but then I lost them. I forget where I put them.

I collect cat figurines.
I have hundreds. Everywhere that I went, I was always on the lookout for them. Ceramic, glass, fabric, wood, stone, crystal. Anything that caught my fancy.
Craft shows, vacations, garage sales, estate sales, trips to the mall, anywhere that possibly had any type of kitty nick-nacks.
My family and friends also joined in. I would always be happy with a kitty cat gift.
I love collecting Bitcoins 😋

Keeping record is part of history that will be told in the future.thank God for your grandfather who always give You a gift of coin.many of us cannot tell what was often given to us as kids.thanks @firepower
I used to collect coins as a kid. I still have them.
Some of the coins are from Iran prior to the revolution. So, they have the picture of the Shah of Iron on them. And some are even made of silver.
Also, when I was a kid the beer can collecting was a thing. And I also used to collect comic books. But, I do not have any of those collections any more.
Cool post. I like the collection of boarding passes. Never thought to keep those. But, it's a great idea.
I collect Poker cards for close up magic.
I am also collecting the tickets for my travels, and also books and magazines 😊
I have no collecting it..... It is a pity....
I collected hundreds of Indonesian stamps, but i lost them in the fire. The oldest of them were from the 70s.
Hey man, sorry to hear about your accident. I am right now about to unload my bike, and this is the best vehicle I ever had the pleasure to own and experience. I used to collect CD
s, bought them mostly used. Now most music is mp3
s so stuff do gets obsolete. I also have more than a few bottles of wine lol.I guess everyone likes collecting but also sampling/experience consume at the same time.
God bless, hope your hand will come back better than before.
Besides crypto...nothing really; )
I used to collect coins... not so much old ones, but foreign currency. Before the introduction of the Euro there was a huge scramble across Europe for all kinds of contemporary coins, like they were going out of style (as they were). But I never visited coin shows or traded for them, let alone pay huge amounts of money for some rare coins. Eventually I ended up leaving them in Geocaches, as it is always cool to find an old Deutsche Mark or French Franc after a successful hi-tech treasure hunt.
I'm also an avid reader, but once I finished a book I would never lug it around with me. Many times it wasn't mine in the first place, so I had to give it back. But even my own books I would give to people. So when sites like shelfari.com or even better goodreads.com came around, I HAD to add all the books I've ever read. Or at least the ones I remembered.
In the end, most of my collections are virtual, be it books, music, or steemit articles! It seems like the same fate awaits boarding passes (something I never even considered collecting), as these days all you get is a flimsy stubble, barely bigger than a cashier's receipt.
Having something to collect is hard especially when you were just a kid and struggling with money . But I used to have anime figured toys collection . I remember I had naruto ,bleach and fairytail . But then I gave birth and they become my kids toy . 😁😁😁
I used to collect bus tickets as a kid, then Funny komiks and then books and then some other comics/anime.
I haven't collected anything crazy. But I have all my textbooks with me. Right from the 3rd standard upto the end of 4th year of my B.tech, I haven't sold any books like most of my classmates used to do. I covered them all inside the sack and kept on the shelves in my home.
Whenever I feel like I shouldn't have grown up, I simply go through my childhood handwritings and indulge in nostalgia!
Hey @firepower, you gave me a good idea for a post. I tried to collect things before when I was a kid but never succeeded. Now as an adult, I collect Beer glasses! each good beer has a costumed glass, and as you can imagine, I spend some money buying those fined beers =)
Nice post, take care.

Now I feel i am stuck :) 70 Boarding passes means hell lotta travel. As a kid I only remember collecting Big fun cards (Cricketers). Great memories rejuvenated. :)
Nice!
Yeah. In childhood , also now. Whenever I see coins with difference from which I have, I always go for it to collect.

Apart from being someone who HOARDS books, I also collect boarding passes! I usually stick them in my sketch books, though.
One weird thing that I collect is pine cones. I love the complexity of their form and it amazes me how nature can make such perfect cones. So every time I come across a pine tree, I collect a cone and now have them all over various different houses. They make for nice interior decor.
such i unique collection you are having seriously i have never seen such collection of boarding passes ever , i know it is hard at same time once i have tried to collect different currency but i failed .
When i was a kid i used to collect letter sets (the one that you write and send letters in the past). Recently i found a few of my collection. I wanted to continue it.
