Is the Universe conscious? Is it aware?
The scientist Gregory Matloff believes so. More about him in a moment.
A revolutionary scientific concept has recently emerged, which scientists are calling “panpsychism.”
Panpsychism (def.) - In philosophy, panpsychism is the view that consciousness, mind or soul (psyche) is a universal and primordial feature of all things.
Scientists have been trying to figure out the Universe, it's purpose, and why we're here. Despite their best efforts, they've come up short up until now. According to Matloff (1) a physicist at New York City College of Technology, the Universe could be like humans, not in only substance but in spirit, too. The website Futurism reported (2) that a “Proto-Consciousness Field” could extend throughout all space. If this were true, then the entire cosmos could be self-aware.
Essentially, what makes an organism conscious is that they are able to remember previous experiences and potentially avoid a bad situation when entering a new situation. If any of you have seen the show "Westworld" (which I highly recommend) this idea will sound familiar. Memories are a key factor in consciousness.
If scientists are able to prove this theory of "panpsychism" , it could shake the world of science to its core.
