Shiva literally means “auspiciousness, welfare”. He is the third god of the Hindu Triad and he is the god of destruction.
The term destruction as it relates to Shiva’s cosmic duties can be deceiving. All that has a beginning must by necessity have an end. in destruction, nothing is really destroyed but the illusion of individuality(separation) Often Lord Shiva destroys negative presences such as ego, old habits, attachments, evil, ignorance, and death. Also, it is this destruction created by Lord Shiva that allows for positive recreation. like an artist melting rocks and ore to create alloys and artifacts.
The true power or energy of Shiva is Shakti(Parvati), his spouse. shiva and Parvati are often depicted sitting happily together in an embrace. they like to discuss philosophy, Shiva taught Parvati transcendent knowledge(Vedanta) while Parvati thought him cosmological knowledge (Sankhya).
Shiva’s third eye is believed to have appeared when Parvati, in a playful mood, covered his eyes with her hands.
Immediately, the universe was plunged into darkness and there was chaos. To restore order, Shiva formed another eye on his forehead, from which emerged fire to restore light.
The light from this eye is believed to be very powerful, and therefore destructive. Shiva opens his third eye only in anger, and the offender is burnt to cinders.
“If you are able to transfigure your lover as the embodiment of the transcendent, beyond all known limits of this world, then you will be able to fully enjoy the experience of transcendence.
If you worship your lover with love and devotion, the Shakti’s creative energy will awaken the Shiva inside you. Thus, having Shakti as counterpart, Shiva’s force (or in other words the Pure Conscience) will rise strongly inside you.
By an intimate union between Shiva and Shakti, in a complete ecstatic pleasure, Jiva or the individual soul gets free from the slavery of his past existence. Then the couple will be able to reach soon the final freedom.”
“There is a bridge between Time and Eternity; this bridge is Jiva, the individual soul itself.”
Nice, I like you POST. You have lot of knowledge about "Lord Shiva". You have to admit that Lord Shiva is one of the most uniquely dressed Gods of our Hindu mythology. See his neck with snake, tiger skin on his body, matted hair, holy ash on his forehead, waning moon and many other things.
