Just when I thought all hope was lost
Just when I thought life wasn't worth living
Then you came along,
You proved me wrong
Your little legs kicking at an imaginary ball in the air
Your gaze fixed on mine
And my index finger held strongly in your hand
Then I look down and smile at you
And you return that smile
And tears build up in my eyes
So I look away and wipe the tears

Those tears I never imagined I would shed
Your mom and I had dreams
We'd walk down the most beautiful walkways around with you in our middle holding one of our hands each
We had plans, your mom and I
And she particularly dreamt of lavishing you with more affection than I your father can offer
But as it turned out, someone else wanted that affection
Death was jealous and greedy
And he cruelly took her away after she gave me you.
Death has indeed robbed you and I, kid. We're bereaved.
So I need you to grow up as fast as you can now,
My only friend is no more and you're her replacement, a souvenir from my beloved wife.
