I think the issue with this is the difference between the person and the institution, whilst the person himself may be genuine and want to truly see inside this aspect and understand it, and it may be that is his classmates may be too and perhaps they want to genuinely understand the counter-culture, the overall institution as a whole probably does not, on saying that very often institutions are not the whole, although the powers at be would like everyone to believe that it is, a good person in a corrupted institution can still help others by being more human and more understanding, I guess the more we reach out as individuals and not as named groups we can possibly bridge the divide, if not across institutions but across individual minds.
