Hi fellow Steempunks,
(I'm a big fan of puns btw as you might have guessed)
Have you ever experienced the following or similar scenario: You're at a club, the music is pumping and you're standing with some friend(s) with a beer in your head. Your head is slowly moving backwards and forwards to the beat and as the night proceeds and the alcohol blood level rises your other body parts start joining in. You start to feel the rhythm and getting into the zone. You're living in the moment and you wish you'd always feel this way.
What if I told you, you could do that any day, anywhere you like without alcohol?
You might say: "Yeah but I don't listen to Salsa music, I listen to Rock music!" or whatever. Well I don't either unless I'm at a Salsa party. My favourite kind of music is actually 50s/60s Rock 'n' Roll (Chuck Berry, Ray Charles and the like). When Johnny B. Goode comes on in the club I go apeshit crazy.
Why should you learn to dance Salsa
First of all at a salsa party the rules are different than at a normal club. You just go up to a girl/guy and ask her to dance. After a song or more you're free to stay around and talk for a bit if you get along or move back to your friends. It's generally more friendly at salsa parties, which makes the getting comfortable dancing easier. However, that's not the point. The point is, if you learn how to dance (be that Salsa or any other type of dance) you get a better feel for your body and more security. So that the next time your jam comes on you don't need alcohol to rock the dance floor.
Anyday, Anywhere
Almost every Sunday during summer, there's an open air salsa party right in the city centre of Cologne. It's on top of the chocolate museum so believe me when I say there are lots of people watching you dance Salsa; people who have probably seen it for the first time in their life. But do I care that people, who don't know what the hell is going on, are watching me? No, because I feel secure with the movement of my body. And as the video down below will show show you, I don't even care if nobody around me is dancing Salsa. What I'm trying to say is, if you know how to dance, you're anywhere in the world and just need some fun in your life, you can just switch on some music and start having fun. It doesn't matter what music you play, because if you feel comfortable dancing Salsa you'll just as well will feel comfortable dancing to your favourite kind of music.
The proof
Can you guess how many non-Salsa-dancers tell me they are incapable of dancing Salsa when I ask them to dance? (Remember I live in Germany) It's about 90%! The other 10% are either Latinos or really confident girls. Do I ever care? No because, every single time I actually get them on the dance floor it works and they leave the dance floor saying it was fun. Now in fairness, the guy typically leads and I have learned how to lead. However, if you're a guy it's no different. I have seen guys with two left feet and the sense of rhythm of a rhinoceros come to my Salsa classes and transform into Salseros that are having fun and girls enjoy dancing with. Guys just need a little bit of time to learn how to lead. So to prove what I'm saying, I set out on carnival (which is pretty big here in Cologne) and asked complete strangers to dance Salsa with me.
I danced with 17 girls, who all had never danced Salsa before. Every single one of them said the same thing "I don't know how to do it!" Well see for yourself what happened:
Very nice @germansalsero I like this. I'm from Venezuela and salsa is one of the most heard and danced musical genres here. Thanks for sharing friend. I follow you.
Thanks :) And I've danced with Venezuelans before. Always a pleasure!
