I am so sorry about your university education. I felt inadequate not having an education and at the age of 38, went to university. I must say one of the best in England! It was a very good experience, but to keep myself, 2 horses and 2 dogs; I had to work 3 part time jobs. This reduced considerably the social life of the university. Oh well, I got my degree and moved on from there.
I filled the need to be educated. I no longer felt inadequate as I had an 'education'. Did I gain by it? I would say yes. The history degree gave me the academic skills to write and research. At the age of 63, I now have the time, (and need the money!), to write and try and make a living doing so.
You know, I think I will write a blog about this. Thank you twice. XX

I think you can also educate yourself outside of school. But for some people it's easier to go to college. Which is understandable.
I certainly did although I should have gone much earlier when I had no 'family' to provide for. The opportunities at Durham University were considerable, and plenty of money for the students to develop their 'life skills'. The teaching was outstanding and I learnt such a lot. I am so sorry your experiences were not so good.
You certainly can educate yourself outside of school, you are a prime example. Most though, have not got your skills. I have looked at your work and it is fantastic. X
