Yeah, it was. But, you know, I had good people watching over me too. Haiti is a great place for someone to get into serious trouble. Willio really watched out for me, and called later to make sure I made it. The pilot was even watchful, and asked if I was sure I knew who was picking me up. He asked for assurance when I said that I recognized Jean Rony (it was the first time we'd met in person). Then I was really never alone, except a couple of times walking down the street nearby in broad daylight. But, as I noted earlier, La Gonave is pretty safe, even at night. Still, I wouldn't want to walk the streets alone at night.
