During the last few weeks while I was on leave I actually had quite a lot of time to think while I recharged my own batteries. One of the many random thoughts that came up was:
What if we lived in a world with no rules.....what if we could do whatever we want without anyone telling us what to do? What if we could live in a free society?
What exactly is a free society?
Most countries are ruled by a government and we are all restricted up to a point. We are controlled by politicians and set rules. We have become so used to these rules, that it has become part of our lives. We regard all these rules and regulations a part of our lives and logically see this as the natural way to do things. Because we have become so used to this way of living, it is extremely hard to imagine what a free society actually means.
What is freedom?
Freedom:
Have you ever really thought what this word means?
Freedom simply means not being imprisoned or enslaved. It means the right to act, speak and think as you choose, without oppressive restrictions imposed on you by others, including those in authority. It applies in your personal, family and social life as well as to your political views and in your economic transactions with others.
WOW!!!
If you look at this definition it makes you think right? Are we really as free a we think we are? Are we able to live freely when a government prescribes to us what to do? Freedom means that there is nothing prohibiting us to act as we choose. To be free means that we can do what we want, whenever we want and go where we want at any point of time.
What are the rules in a free society?
- Everyone is considered equal.
- Everyone has the same rights.
- No one is manipulated by anyone.
- You are free to do whatever you want as long as you don't harm anyone.
Will this even be possible?
If everyone was able to do whatever they want without being touched by any law would that not cause chaos?
Are we so used to doing things according to rules, that we will struggle without rules?
I believe that we all have a right to live as we want...but do we as humans have it in us to change?

very interesting post giantbear, lots of interesting points raised for those new to the concept of freedom. I'd just like to add a couple of points for anyone reading and those are that the word government can be translated as 'control of the mind' and also that the society we live in today is not our society at all but rather that of the law society. Any act of parliament (uk) or act of congress (US) is only given 'the force of law' by the 'consent' of the 'governed'. That is to say that an act of parliament/ congress only applies to you if you agree that it does.
thanks for posting
Hi @tonyr thank you. Yip my second post will be about the rule of law. I agree that this is an interesting topic and I am busy studying this topic a bit. Have a great day!
will do mate and look forward to reading it. :-)
I loved this post so much. I agree with you 1000% percent. It really lifts my spirits to see others who think this way. I do believe we are all waking up as they say. Much love and new follower here
Ahhh thank you @soundlegion! Appreciate your kind words. I will follow you back.
I don't think there is true freedom. Humans are programed to want to conform and follow rules. Humans like order. Sometimes it comes in the form of laws. Sometimes it just comes from how our brain is programed. Like if you pay attention to something simple like walking down a sidewalk. In the U.S. we drive on the right side of the road, have handrails to stairs on the right side of stairwells. We are so programed to be right oriented that we walk on the right side of whatever space we are in like sidewalks. Even if you didn't have a larger structure of rules from a government, some types of rules (some unspoken) would govern your behavior.
Yip, and we do everything on the left side here...LOL! I do believe that there must be some order....going to write my next post tonight.
Great post Y
Hi Ian! Thank you....back to work today and already feels like I am back in a cage... :(
Freedom is the most precious thing that cannot be bought. However, there should be some rules in society, because unfortunately there will always be greed and lust for power within some people. It is not so easy to determine where is that line where you are not harming anyone, because some actions we do and behaviors we have, can harm someone somewhere even if we don
t want that. We should all strive to be free as much as possible as individuals, and luckily with today
s technology and connection we have, it is possible. Wish you all the best! :)Yes... we have to use our freedom wisely otherwise it will become anarchy.
I just think it will cause absolute chaos if everyone did what they want...perhaps I am brainwashed too...lol!
It would be wonderful, but unfortunately the majority of people are either brainwashed by our governments, or else do not understand the true meaning of freedom...taking only the selfish egotistical meaning.
Hi @katdvine I think we are all brainwashed to a point, and I truly think that we do not understand the meaning of freedom. I'm struggling to wrap my head around the word freedom.
I live a pretty solitary life with my pack far out in the countryside. I live to just "be". Huge freedom in that.
However, unfortunately we all have to "fit in" at times and so I go with the flow when I absolutely need to, however briefly.
There are, as you say, rules to society.
That must be absolutely wonderful! It has always been my motto to just go with the flow....
It made a huge difference to my life.
It also helps when dealing with others I come across. I am not programmed to think as I am told (I was for a few years) I can see situations from all angles and offer no judgement. I listen.
We are all connected and are wired to help one another...however, society has made it so that everything has a price...so most people will only work for financial gain. Crime soars for the same reason.
Yes, there have to be rules, but our world has gone overboard because of corrupt people driven by greed.
You are going to have some glorious pileups on all the road corners without any rules, the dead and dying will remain there if nobody feels like taking them away. Who is going to feed and milk the cows?catch the fish, grow the veggies? The workers are all on permant holliday. Even the cave men had rules so even at that level of life rules were necessary. Utopia beguns next century, same as to orrow, it never comes.
Exactly my thoughts...chaos in the world...much like now...ha ha ha!
I have exactly the same thoughts about freedom. We live in relative freedom as long as we play by the rules.
