15 days off smokes and excessive drink

in #life6 years ago

I live a pretty boozy life normally, I also smoke. This obviously makes for a very unhealthy life. I am aware that this is a problem but since I was one of those guys that managed to be reasonably successful with the booze and smokes in my life I never really bothered to change it.

On this recent trip back to the States i found myself primarily in the company of people who dont get drunk all the time and none of them smoke. Therefore, i decided to take the "when in Rome" approach and see what happens.

So far, the results have been pretty nice. I am waking up early and getting loads of stuff done in the time frame that I would normally be sleeping it off and even then, still feeling like crap when i get up and of course, having a ciggie that makes me feel even worse.

I am not trying to say that i am going to change my life fully, because an awful lot of this has to do with the fact that I am hanging around a completely different type of people over here. My parents rarely have more than 1 beer and the other people I have stayed with don't drink at all. This isn't even a health choice for one of the guys, he just doesn't like booze, which is a very strange thing for me to fathom.

I have been drinking, don't get me wrong, but only as much as the company that I am in. I have not been hungover once but I did notice that the one time I slept in was Nov 1st because I had 5 beers on Halloween. I want everyone to understand that 5 beers, for me, is an appetizer when I am in Thailand. This would be considered a sensible evening such as needing to go to work the next day type sensible.

Even on the weekends, my mornings are headache-free.

I have another month in this country before I return back to South-East Asia and well, i think i would like to try to take some of this attitude with me. Sure, you have to sit at home a bunch and not be social, but that is what video games are for after-all.

However, I think that this trip of mine has been a bit of an eye-opener and even though I manage to make a decent wage with my current lifestyle and well, partying is fun. However, as sad as it sounds, i haven't really felt what it is like to not be hungover in quite some time.

Time will tell i suppose, and i know many other people live this way - they are likely called alcoholics. I know it is very common in Thailand, where I currently live. It would probably be seen as strange if you didn't want to drink every day. I'll see if i can carry this attitude back with me to that country because well, it feels kind of nice to not have a headache, and i don't have to go outside every 15 minutes for a ciggie either (i think the cold weather helps enforce that.)

Hey, that's good! That would be a good year-end purpose: to drink and smoke little. I think I understand you. I'm also about drinking with friends and being in circles where smoke is part of the conversation. There is no meeting without cold beers! It's not bad at all to detoxify the body for a few days. And the best thing: rest from morning hangovers. Greetings

Mate you post had me in stitches! " beers, for me, is an appetizer" ahahahaha I can agree! I have 5 beers before I leave the house to go to the pub. I'm gonna subscribe as I am interested to see how it goes.

I went to the liver specialist a few weeks ago for a Fibroscan, as I am concerned I drink too much and have damaged my liver, but I got the results and it is in perfect health, regardless of my drinking beer most night of the week ;-)
ps. I don't smoke tobacco, just a little bit of weed on its own here and there. I eat well and that doc said that has a lot to do with it

yeah, i went through something similar with a doctor and was surprised to find out that I am in just dandy health also. I wonder if i will put my system into shock by starting to be healthy. Also, it should be noted that I would say there is very little chance that this is going to be a permanent change for me. I succomb to temptation far too easily. I will likely never stop drinking (I don't want to) but i think putting down the ciggies would be a good idea.

Spot on mate, sack off the fags and meet yourself half way haha. Just about to crack into a cold Guinness, cheers

Great read. I too tend to enjoy the drinking side of lie and have my days when I just went to switch up and not be hungover for a while.....not too mention the financial benefit of staying on the wagon.

Love the statement that "5 beers is an appetizer" Haha. When I was 17 that would be more than enough but these days I have 5 beers whilst making the decision as to whether I want to step the night up and go downtown. I will be using the "Appetizer" analogy from now onward if you don't mind.

@gooddream sir!
I'm glad you started a positive initiative. Regardless of the credit goes to your good friends, with whom you stay away from these things for a few moments. Although leaving all these habits unattractive is harmful, mental stress, such as headache. But gradually everything becomes normal. Both beer and cigarette puffs are harmful to health.

Many peoples like smoking.Peoples never stop smoking.Peoples like the smell of cigrites. In pakistan all colleages or universities Students like smoking. But smoking injured your lungs.Injured your health.Peoples also like drink. And enjoy the life.Beers gives many benefits in your health.I love the taste of beer.I m also alcholic. Thanks for sharing.

I drink twice a week but not too excessively unless im in a good company with school friends I drink to a point of nearly crashing out which happens rarely.
I do smoke but again less and as we know the number goes up with drinks.
Its good you had a start for lifestyle change and I do hope you carry that forward

I don't actually drink because my parents never permit me to. And also I don't smoke, my parents didn't permit me to. I have always been told about the healthy danger behind drinking and smoking, mist especially smoking. So this really made me not to drink or smoke. But I still have some of my friends who smoke and drink till today
