What questions should you ask in a job interview?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

In reference to the job-switching trend around the globe and based on personal experiences, some usual but bizarre interview questions came across and are in fashion. I hope most of us feel unfair about but never said a word.

It would be great if some 'HR Managers/Recruiters/Interviewers' could enlighten us

Question 1: It has become a usual practice of recruiters that they ask questions like 'Why did you leave your last job?'

It is fair to ask that but, Doesnt the organization owe some information to the applicant too? Such as:

'Where did this vacancy come from?' i.e. 'Company got a new project' OR 'Did someone leave the job?

  • If someone left: What would be the reason? Unethical behavior of supervisors/management or less paygrade or low growth opportunities? And, most importantly, how does the company management plan to avoid such situation for me?

Surprisingly, I happened to ask one recruiter about it and 'he was annoyed'

Isnt it fair to ask? Being an applicant, I am also taking a big decision of my life same as the organization. I am probably going to relocate my whole family, going to adjust in new atmosphere and looking forward to make a new team. And am i not supposed to know about the psychology/behavior and working style of the staff/management there? Why this information is missing on the advertised post?

Question 2. Second most frequent question the interviewer asks is 'Where do you see yourself in 5 years?'

It is fair enough to ask too but the question is, 'Would you (organization) let me be where i expect myself to be in 5 years?'

  • What is the growth of my career based on? Is it based on my performance, praising my seniors or joining the on-going politics?
  • What is my projected compensation in terms of salary and benefits in 5 years? Wouldnt you give me any information before i answer this question?

Question 3. Last but not the least, 'What is your expected salary?'

So, can i go like mm..

At the time of advertising the post, many companies add comments about salary like 'competitive salary', 'benefits', 'salary negotiable'. The advertiser of the announced vacancy mentions clearly about the 'selection criteria' and 'key skills required' from the candidate.

By benefits you mean a bonus occasional overtime on weekend or..

Is it too hard to mention the competitive salary and benefits the organization is referring? Would you accept the applicant with information in their CV like: 'competitive skills', 'superhuman' and 'work time negotiable' etc

Well, i know HR managers are just doing their jobs
They are being paid to hire skilled labor at lower salary. But, HR managers are human like us too right, they suffered the same way as we do. Why does it get so hard for them to understand and feel for the applicant?

Above all, and in short:

Giving a job to a skilled person was never a 'Favor' and please dont try to make one

  • It is a trade of resources.
  • You give salary and the worker gives his skills, time and energy.
  • Its an exchange. Yes, like between two cryptocurrencies.

One cannot say

you know what i shall give you competitive amount of ETH, just send me 1000 Litecoins

"Know your worth guys, you are priceless, dont go for lowballing"
