GNAT - NOT YOUR TIME TO DIE!
So I decided to take a trip over to DD this morning to grab a coffee, since I was feeling a little lazy and wasn't in the mood to fire up the maker. When I pulled up, there was a Sparrow just chillin' on the lid of the garbage can. I like those little fellas.
So, I picked up my order-to-go, got back in the car, flipped open the mouth-lid, and took my first sip...
aaahh
just the right amount of Sugar to compliment the Dark Roast... Black.
As I lifted the coffee to my mouth again, fiending for that second sip like a caffeine addict, I noticed Gnat buzzing around erratically, and bouncing off the invisible walls of the very same air we shared.
Why should I care, to spare its life?
Maybe on some other day, I would not have thought twice about clapping Gnat out of existence, following a sequence of off-beat claps, appearing as if I had no rhythm at all, to the average onlooker. Two or three measures later, filled with un-quantized, syncopated attempts, Gnat would have met its demise.
Today, however, I did not view Gnat as an inconvenience for some reason. I simply looked at Gnat as co-existing in the same space, and sharing the same air. I'm not sure, but I think Gnat was entertaining me, or maybe sharing a sneak-preview of a performance that it had been practicing... bouncing around unpredictably, to Gnat's own rhythm. And it was beautiful.
But then, when Gnat landed on the passenger side window...
I knew the time had come!
With a new sense of peace, I pressed and held down that button firmly, as I watched Gnat eagerly find its way up to towards the fresh air, but seemingly reluctant as if to say on the way over the top of the glass wall, "Tks pal, see ya around".
But before I could even utter a single word, Gnat had flown off out of sight, on to its next earthly experience.
To myself I replied, "No.... thank YOU, Gnat", "for expanding my mind, over those few moments in time".
