This reminds me of when i was put through a management training course...

Always point out good characteristics in someone, before actually telling them there wrong doings

If you want someone to take ownership of a task, give it a true purpose

Always find ways to motivate people to keep up performance... example: "looks like we could be in for a record the way we are going!" Always seems to help motivate, in my experience.
