A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED
“A person who serves at a hard situation is a true friend”
In a small village called Uzuri (meaning ‘Beauty’), in the region of Upendo (Love), two people i.e. George (aged 25 yrs old) & Geoffrey (aged 24 yrs old) from poor families were found living there. These were friends since their childhood; they went to school together, from Primary School, Secondary School, and High School and even at the University Level. Both, George and Geoffrey graduated from the Ushindi (Victory) University which is in Shukrani (Gratitude) region, i.e. the next region after Upendo region. George had lost his father some years ago meanwhile, Geoffrey is a totally an Orphan, both of them, got a financial support for their studies from the Government (through Students Loan Scheme – application).
After the completion of their studies, both of them were looking for employment opportunities without any success. Due to that situation, some several times, they were to decide, to go to some offices, asking even for voluntary opportunities, whether it is paid or unpaid. But it was really difficult to get chances. Every office was fully occupied. It was a certain kind of transition for them and even other graduates from various learning institutions in that region, the condition was the same.
The alternative for the whole situation was for them (George and Geoffrey) to engage effectively into agricultural activities, simply because the majorities (80%) were performing such activities and through those, people gained their incomes, hence running/solving their family matters (financial matters). For these two friends, were mainly engaging into crop cultivation only while others performed both Crop cultivation and Animal keeping. George and Geoffrey were to some extent helpful to their families. Sometimes they were able to gain some cash/ cents but also some days they were not, not all days were the same.
Some days later, a mother of George, was suffering, very sick. In cooperation with their neighbors, they were to decide to take her to the Hospital. Few balance/ money that Geoffrey was able to save were used for the matters of transport and for his mother to be admitted at the Hospital. While they were already at the Hospital, George phoned his friend, Geoffrey, so that to inform him about the situation, at that moment, Geoffrey was at the place where people used play Checkers/ Draughts. Then, George explained to him, Geoffrey was very sympathetic towards his friend together with his mother, this was due to the fact that, not only George’s mother was very sick but also they were facing financial difficulties. They were required to purchase some medicine, and other services (George’s mother had no health insurance). Then, Geoffrey told his friend that he will be there in some minutes to come.
After half-hour (30 minutes), George tried to call his friend Geoffrey again without reaching him, he was no longer available. He was again very sad, disappointed and appalled. His mother was still on bed, received only some first aid. Ten minutes later, Geoffrey was already there, and then George was telling him that he was trying to call/phone him but he was not available, he asked what the matter was? Very politely, Geoffrey replied to him that “I decided to sell my mobile phone and the money I got from selling it, will be used to support your mother”, suddenly George started to cry while hugging his friend. Then George said to him “Now I believe and realized that, A Friend in need is a Friend indeed, thank you so much my dear Friend.” From there, George’s mother was able to the required services/treatments, mostly medicine and Geoffrey did not asked his friend to pay back for what he did.
