Sportbike Ride Followed by Sport Touring Honda

in #life6 years ago

This ride is about Tyson following my son who rides a Honda ST1300 sport touring bike. This bike is similar to the Kawasaki Concours shown a few days ago. This Honda has a 1300cc engine, 7.7 gallon tank, is fuel injected and weighs about 700 pounds. Tyson is very fast and proficient riding this heavy bike with other riders on light liter sportbikes. He 'knee drags' with the best of them. Watch him at 1:41 in the following video where he touches the centerline while leaned over.

You may have seen the Honda ST1300 before only in black and white as it is used by many police departments, state police and highway patrols. They have luggage bags on both sides for equipment and weapon racks for AR-15 and shotguns. I like the all black one like Tyson's 2006 Honda ST1300 as shown here.

Tyson put many miles on his ST and wore out a u-joint in his shaft drive. My son and I did the replacement at my house. The hardest part was to fabricate a castellated nut tool from a 36mm impact socket which took a couple of days grinding with a dremel tool. We hadn't the time to order and purchase Honda's special tool to do the job. We don't just ride these bikes, we fix them too.

Tyson's wife owned and rode a Kawasaki ninja 500 that we fixed too. Tyson took the 500 to CVR Chuckwalla Raceway trackday weekend with my son. Well he rode it too hard and blew the engine at the track. 😂 So back at my house, the engine was pulled, new rings and head gasket and reassembled same day. She never knew he blew her bike up by riding it too hard at the track. 😂 Thanks for watching and reading and enjoy your ride!

I don't like riding backwards... ;)

Another nice bike though...

Sorry for twisting you around backwards there Dan. The ST1300 are great tough bikes cause the police wouldn't be using them otherwise. 😃

A nice leisurely ride.

They were going slow on purpose to video Tyson and they were new to that mountain road. They always do one slow run on a new road to check things out before riding it fast so there are no surprises.

I was wondering if you guys routinely run the roads before hand. A rock slide could make for a bad day. I only came off a bile once and it wasn't anywhere near the speed you run at. Its good you wear the proper attire.

Another thing we look for is sand in the corners. Sand will cause your rear tire to lose traction, slide out and you will go down in a low side crash. Many riders will stop and sweep the sand off the road with their feet.

Yikes! Way to close to the lines for me! He blew his wife's bike up? Ut oh not good. LOL

That is a narrow two lane road up a mountain. Yeah, track days are tough on bikes. The head gasket was blown and no compresssion. While the head was off, put new rings on the pistons and was all good with a new head gasket. His wife didn't know that he took her bike to the track let alone abuse it. He ran the crap out of it at CVR. 😃

Yikes, on one curve his shadow on the road tricked me into thinking he was wiping out, was relieved when I saw the bike come back up.

Tyson really throws that big heavy bike around but he is a big guy and ex Marine. He rides it like the smaller sportbikes. Even layed all the way over a twist on the throttle to power out of the curve will bring the bike back up. Just how it works and you 'feel' the lift while it happens. 😃

A slow ride is good sometimes
