Sportbike Ride with a Troll

in #life6 years ago

My son was following me on this ride and is the only time that he let me lead. We were headed to a local casino for a lobster buffet. Since Dad pays, junior let me lead. Sorry for hiding the speedometer digits at the beginning of the following video.

A mischevious troll jumped on my son's speedometer but was ok because he didn't stay for a long time. The silver cylinder made by Ohlins across the bottom of the screen is a steering dampener. It is very adjustable to increase steering tension so a 'tank slapper' never happens. A tank slapper throws the handlebars and front wheel full left to full right turn and back very quickly in an oscillation. This is a very scary event and something you never want to experience. Thanks for coming along on our ride and the lobster was yum!

Yummmmm! Lobster!!!!!

The lobster was terrific and we had small steaks along with it. It was certainly a 'Lobster Thanksgiving'.

Nice...

Had a tank slapper on my mate's GPZ1100, at about 135mph. Shat myself, damn near.

He fitted a damper and fork brace just after that. I never rode it again. Too scary.

The above dampener is mechanical. New bikes have electronic controlled dampening and the faster your speed is, the stiffer the dampener. It is still adjustable but lets you turn curves as your speed slows down automatically as you ride. Is a really nice feature.

@oldercodge, Should of went faster, they smooth out!

That's right watertower. Kind of hard to twist the throttle more when the bars are flopping back and forth faster than you can see. Hopefully you still have a hold on the bars.

Those damn trolls covering up the best part. :;

That little rat just jumped on there. My son swished him off tho. For a short while my son had no idea how fast he was going.

That bike has a nice sound to it.

The muffler pipe or can is stock but inside are custom baffles to change the sound and let the engine breathe better. One of our riding buddies says 'Damn that bike pulls HARD!' as he tries to keep up with my son.

GREAT RIDE

Thanks Jessie. I was first too! The only time I beat my son cause I am always following him. 😊

you and your bikes...

Yeah always had one since driving age. Five years ago we had 9 motorcycles here but have got the herd down to 4 now.

Cool stuff

The sportbikes are very cool how much technology is built into new bikes. The Yamaha R1M pairs with your smartphone and you can change riding modes, review the trip or route you just rode on a map on your phone later.
