Wonderful to live in and cheap to maintain, almost no heating bills... and free hot water from heat exchangers and solar gain.
All for living like this and under the radar as much as possible. Have an offgrid home in Spain sitting in the middle of nowhere and enjoyed the challenge of everyday living when we lived there permanently for several years - getting back to basics and all that! Still, I couldn't have managed without my husband who is 'The Man That Can'! Problem is that many governments don't want folks opting out like this for all their posturing on the environment. In Spain, just the other year, they introduced a sunlight tax which rules that any dwelling that is on grid and chooses to power by solar has to pay a penalty levy! Corruption knows no bounds eh.
