Once upon a time, the term CELEBRITY referred to individuals who were movie stars, sportsmen, models and musicians. However in recent years, there has been the rise of a new type of celebrity and the people who fall under this category are referred to as the social media celebrities. On most social media sites available, we have people who are well known by the a large amount of users of these sites. You will find various individuals who are making the with their pictures, posts, etc. You'll find people who will post sultry pictures that will have people exclaiming waoh, waoh, waoh !!!, like a police siren. You'll find someone who will say or do something "cool". This " cool" things involve the slandering of political figures, religious leader, companies,etc. Another way of being "cool" is to also perform or engage in some weird phenomenon, which will surprise the people, e.g posting of nude pictures, which never fail to drive certain individuals crazy. Other means of attracting people may include dressing in a specific designer outfit at all times (This doesn't make them ambassadors of such outfits). The funny thing is that even this catches the attention of people for reasons I just don't understand.
I don't have a problem with their status but what really concerns me is that unlike the "real" celebrity, who actually impact the society in different ways and have served as role models for various people, giving them healthy aspirations. However, that is not the case with most of these social media celebrities, most of them just engage cyber wars, passing derogatory remarks about everybody and everything. They almost have no positive impact on the people.
However, when you come to Steemit, the scenario seems to change. This might be due to the nature of Steemit which requires you to produce quality works, for you to get upvotes. There are various individuals on Steemit who are quite famous with the general populace and they are already what can be referred to as celebrities.
Take @papa-pepper for example, with his documentaries of different animals. This used to give me the creeps but I'm now actually considering getting myself a pet snake (non venomous though). His philantrophic nature has really touched lives across Steemit and this is really impressive.

Another one is @blocktrades, who regardless of the fact that he hardly posts has been helping out with most of our conversions. You might claim not to know or have dealings with other "Steemit Celebrities mentioned here. However, everyone makes use of blocktrades, when coverting from Steem to SBD or vice versa. And some require his services when they need to cash out their funds.

Alright, so there might be a few "whale wars" once in a while on Steemit but tell me a place with humans where there are no feuds of any type? Rivalry is a part of the human nature and there is no place where this sort of rivalry is not to be found. Even "Steemit's wars" pale in comparison to the wars on other social media pages. I guess it can be said that by spending adequate time on Steemit, one passes through a fire, which leaves him refined and pure.
