Mind-blowing Facts about the Human Brain

in #life5 years ago

The human brain has two hemispheres. One being the thinking or rational hemisphere and the other one the feeling or emotional hemisphere. The thinking or rational hemisphere constantly tries to make adequate decisions and to control your feeling or emotional hemisphere.

But guess what, your emotional hemisphere doesn’t like that controlling behavior of the rational hemisphere. And this simple fact leads us in to making irrational or stupid decisions, like all the time.

For instance, we just get our salary in. We want to spend it; go shopping, go on holiday, but we don’t want to pay off our mortgage or credit card debt back yet. Our rational brain hemisphere tells us to save our money for a rainy day and pay the debts, the emotional brain just doesn’t want to listen.

The rational brain wants to preserve, whilst the feeling brain just wants to do whatever it feels like to, whenever it feels like to.

Like, have you ever had like $10 in your pocket at lunch break and still bought that damn nice looking avocado, poached egg and salmon baguette, staring at you at the cost of $7,50 at the bakery instead of the way more rational choice, the $1,50 croissant, keeping money left over for a similar snack when school or work is over to buy on the way back home and probably even save a few bucks for the next day?

This is why most people cannot handle money.

Another example: Relations

The rational brain hemisphere is looking for a sustainable, loving and caring partner that will always be there for them; never cheat, never argue, have lots of babies together or if not in to making children or same sex relations, just crazy, wild and passionate sex all the time.

The emotional brain just does whatever it feels like to. Imagine going to school or work and this new hottie shows up and starts flirting with you whilst you’re in a relationship.

Your rational brain hemisphere keeps saying don’t do it, don’t flirt back you dirty minded (man)wh*re. But as time passes by, and the flirting occurs more often and often, the emotional brain is just dying to go on a date with the person in question or even more than just a date.

This is the reason people cheat, relations go to shit and couples divorce.

In his #1 New York bestseller: Everything is Fucked, Mark Manson explains the best way to control both brain hemispheres and keep them in line, is by following the rules of Newton’s law of emotion.
