"A few moments later, he found himself on lying on a beach. He looked around, completely perplexed by his surroundings. He slowly stood up and took in his surroundings. The sand was soft and without impurities. The tides of the ocean were graceful yet struck the shores with fierce power. The leaves of the palm trees danced to the rhythm of the winds. The rays of the sun were warm and comforting. He gazed down the beach. A person sitting on a log came into his line of vision. The person looked oddly familiar. He cautiously approached. The person on the log stood up and said " It's good to see you".
This person turned out to be my client's brother. Tears began to stream down his face, both out of happiness and sadness. "What was it like? Y'now... to die. Is this heaven?" my client asked his brother. "Well, not exactly. It's hard to explain. I can tell you this though. It's much better to die with love in your heart then to die with anger and hate in your heart. If you die full of hate and anger, you'll be stuck in purgatory forever. You will be trapped in an infinite void. It's like being a sleep for eternity but with no dreams, no emotions, and no escape. If you die with love in your heart, you are able to stay connected with those you love. You can't control them, but you can drop hints that you are watching over them". My client couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had so many more questions. Before he could gather himself and sort through his thoughts, his brother spoke up again. " I know this is a lot to take in. I need you to go back. It's not your time yet. Trust me when I tell you that I will be watching over you. If you muster up the courage to go back, I will do what I can to protect you". He looked his brother in the eye and nodded his head. He wrapped his arms around him. Peace washed over his body from head to toe. It felt like the comfort of a warm blanket. The same feeling he had experienced when he first injected himself with heroin. This time though, it was the love of his brother that provided it.
In the next moment, he took in a giant gasp of air. He woke up in a hospital bed surrounded by doctors, nurses, and his girlfriend at the time. He was confused and inquired as to what was happening. His girlfriend explained to him that she found him lying in his bathroom unconscious and barely breathing. She usually called before she came over. But on this particular day, she decided too just show up and surprise him. To his luck, she found him just in time. This experience changed his life. Within 15 minutes of waking up, he decided that he was going to get clean and never look back.
I've always been skeptical of the supernatural, visions, ghosts, omens or whatever you want to call them. Being agnostic, I'm not sure if this was a glimpse on to the other side or merely a chemical reaction in the brain causing this vision. Regardless of what it was, this story was incredibly powerful on left a huge impression on me. I realized something. Any body could be the person sitting on the log on the beach. A few words of encouragement and comfort can really change someone's life."
