Im a few days late. Better later than never in this case. An Important date just popped up. A date that will forever have a significant part of my heart. The day my grandfather went home. Before he left however, He left memories and a legacy that so many of his friends and family will never forget. Its been four years now and it still saddens me like it happened only yesterday.
Dear Grandpa,
four years have gone by and so much has happened in that short amount of time. Paysen has grown up into a beautiful little girl who starts kindergarten this year. I remember just before you left us, we visited you in Florida. Grandma and you watched Paysen for a short time to give Ryan and I a night out. I remember you telling me how great she was and how you shared your strawberry ice cream with her and she loved it. You were so fond of her and her of you.
Since you have been gone Grandpa, Iv had a little boy and oh how you would have loved him so much. He looks so much like you when you were little. He is adventurous, loving, and has so much of the Wood side in him. The hardest is to watch him play and think of how much Grandpa would have loved him.
Ryan and I were going through some difficult times living in New York, and as many years as we have been saying we wanted to move to Florida, God showed us a way. We are here now! It's beautiful, and we are doing better than we could ever have imagined. One of the very reasons for being here was to be closer to you and Grandma. That reason stings my heart every once in awhile. God is opening so many new doors for our family and I wish you were here to see it.
When the church praise team sings certain hymns I tear up and have to pause from singing because if I listen closely, I still hear your voice singing the lyrics as if you were projecting them from your pulpit.
A couple days before your homecoming, you called us three cousins in just to talk. We talked about nothing really of importance, but it was important to us girls. While you were in so much pain it was as if God allowed us to have one more conversation with you. Your stories and adventures were always my favorite thing to listen to.
I often think of you. A few months ago I went to grandmas, and was looking at the pictures in the spinning picture holder. I was amazed to see all the photos of the places you went. You lived life so incredibly and I know God was a huge part of that.
One thing that I haven't forgotten is in all your pain in all your sorrow, when a praise song was played of my mom and I singing you lifted your hands. Everything you were going through you gave the glory to God. Thank you for the example you showed of how our faith should look even in difficult times.
I could go on for days on all the memories you left us with, but let me conclude with this, you were an Incredible man who I continue to look up to. Thank you for being a caring grandfather. If you are looking down on me, I hope I'm making you proud. You are incredibly missed, and I can't wait for the day when I will see you again. Until then Grandpa, you are in my thoughts.
Love,
-Your Granddaughter-
You were right I did tear up.
