Wanted to share with you all one of the most amazing trips I have ever taken to a little place called New Orleans! This will be blog Part 1 of New Orleans. All about some of the amazing places to eat!!
My best friend Allison and I recently took our annual girls trip together. This past year we decided to travel to New Orleans! Just a quick background here Allison and I have been friends for 15+ years. She currently lives in Los Angeles California and she is a comedian. She's incredibly positive and hilarious! One of the most genuine and pure souls on this planet. She is as sweet as sugar and is incredibly smart and talented. She introduced me to laws of attraction and quantum physics but we'll do a whole blog about those topics in the future! If you want to check Allison out here is her info. **Please keep in mind she is a comedian - please do not take offense to anything she posts or acts she has done, her comedy is dirty but it's also silly and all done for joy, laughter, and entertainment. Since Allison does so much traveling for comedy shows, comedy festivals, etc. she has a Timeshare with Wyndham Vacations! So we stayed right on St. Charles street at the Avenue Plaza a Wyndham vacation ownership resort . Such beautiful accommodations and great location. Right next to a Trolley stop!
If you stay at a centralized hotel and are able bodied, my opinion is to take the Trolley and walk for transportation in NOLA! The Trolley is super affordable at $1.25 per day or you can buy a pass for $3.00 depending on how long your stay is. The trolley map is very easy to follow, as I know some transportation system (trains, trams, subways, tube) maps are not so user friendly.
I knew I was going to get some "good eats" in New Orleans but I did not realize NOLA was such a foodie wonderland! Of course right at the top of the list is Cafe Du Monde.
Cafe Du Monde is famous for it's beignets and chicory coffee. A beignet is a French term for a pastry made from deep-fried choux pastry. Some people compare it to a doughnut, but its something you have to taste to really understand it's more like a little deep fried piece of heaven enveloped in powdered sugar. Chicory is actually a plant. Chicory became popular in France during Napoleon's Continental Blockade of 1808. Story has it that the French started mixing Chicory with their dwindling supplies of coffee beans to make their coffee stretch. While Chicory does not have a natural occurrence of caffeine in it, it does have a taste similar to that of coffee which makes it a passable substitute.
When you think of New Orleans food one thing that definitely comes to mind is Crawfish. Even though it's a bit commercialized you'll definitely want to stop into the Acme Fish House for some Crawfish Etouffee and deep fried Crawfish Tails!
Another NOLA staple is Jambalaya! Jambalaya is a Louisiana dish of Spanish and French influence. This dish consist of mainly meat and vegetables mixed with rice and oh man is it good! You can find this dish just about ANYWHERE in NOLA. Allison and I stopped by K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen for it and some Crawfish pies by recommendation and we were NOT disappointed!
If you've never had a Po' Boy before be sure to check out Johnny's for a Roast Beef Po'boy. Since Po Boy's originated in New Orleans I had high expectation for this sandwich and Johnny's kicked my expectations ass! It was the most mouthwatering slow roasted fall apart in your mouth beef. Trust me! Get one!
When you think of New Orleans you don't necessarily think of BBQ... at least I didn't! We met up with our friend Toby who is living in New Orleans currently who's also a comedian, actor, costume designer, movie maker. Toby took us to this cute little place called Saucy's BBQ on Magazine street.
Some of the best finger licking pulled pork and homemade mac and cheese a girl could ask for!
If you're looking for a good old southern breakfast check out the Trolley Stop! The homemade biscuits and gravy are to die for and anywhere I go for brunch / breakfast I always like to try the Eggs Benedict. These Benedict's topped with fresh gravy will stop you in your Steemit tracks!!
Have I made you hungry yet?
