I think that mysticism perplexes many, perhaps none more than dogmatic Catholics. What is not perplexing is that everyone seeks God, even the ardent atheist has at sometime or another sought God. The desire to seek a Truth seems to be built into our DNA.
I take comfort in reading the revelations of Saint Bridget, simply because it reminds me I am not alone and that others have walked the path.
