Spending a whole day without it was worse than I thought..
I am not talking about anything too bad, well I don't think so but I gave my phone to my daughter for the day and I felt a little lost at times.
It was for a good reason so glad I did.
My twelve year old has aspergers or as here in the UK it is filed under the autistic umbrella my daughter has "high functioning autism" although my daughter can function normally emotionally my daughter eight and unlike my eldest who likes to be alone my daughter loves to be social but finds it hard and sadly doesn't always go about it the right way.
She had been invited by a couple friends that she does have to go to costa and then to the beach after school, nothing major you might think but we live in the middle of nowhere and her school is 15 miles away so for us to let her out that far from home in a busy town on her own for the first time was scary hell.
Sadly her phone is broken but we didn't want to stop her from going as she was looking forward to it so much and we were proud of her for wanting to go as up until 2 years ago we couldn't even leave her alone at a birthday party without tears.
I gave her my phone to use to call us if needed at 7am and started my day, I'm a smoker yes bad habit I know but it wasn't until the first time I went out for a smoke that I missed it.
Smoking gives that that 5mins break from the madness that is life and I tend to sit and play a quick game or check on usual social media rubbish.
I work 5 evenings a week but my wife breeds cats and dogs plus a couple of other animals so I have a lot to do while at home during the day so a break now and then is always well needed. While at work in the evening I don't really get chance to look at it so that wouldn't bother me as much so maybe it's more about procrastination than anything else who knows.
I don't know whether it was just because of the lack of phone or the worry about letting her out that far from home on her own but that was the longest day I have had for a long time.
Also using it to tell the time is not good and I might have to buy a watch as I had to go feed our horses before picking up our youngest and usually know how long I could spend there but that day didn't have a clue, I was nice and early for the school run though as had to sit there for half an hour before school was out :-)
I didn't realize how much time I wasted on it, I find myself still on it sometimes 5 - 10 mins after finishing my smoke and intend to cut down the usage as I could get a lot more done.
How long could you last without your phone??
I dare you to leave it at home before you go out for the day and see how long before the panic sets in.
Worse thing is that I am at the age where we didn't have them growing up but couldn't do without it for a day...
Sad but true.
