Labour is a scary word for a lot of women out there, owing to which motherhood is the least desired choice for them. Not willing to become a mother and avoiding it because of fears are two different things. Of course, one should respect others’ choice but fear is not a choice, rather a state of mind. If your fear is getting between your desire of becoming a mother, you should definitely do something to conquer it.
Right now, you might be at the tail of the child bearing years. So instead of wasting this opportunity of a life-changing, soul-shaking, self-exploring experience amidst the dark moments of fear, read the following lines as it may help you in deciding.
⦁ You Will Meet A Whole New Self of Yours
Whatever age you are right now, you probably think you’ve got enough exposure and realizations of your self. The truth, however, is that a whole new self of yours is waiting for you to embrace. Giving birth to a baby only not change you in shape and size but it’s a total reborn experience from the inside. You will never be the same person as before for you will become a second priority for yourself. The baby will always win!
Wait, I know this last line seems horrific when you read but, trust me, this is not something to be scared of. The observation I have says, this new, fragile and vulnerable tiny creature will make you fall in yourself in a way that you never knew before.
⦁ Afraid of Losing Your Career?
For most of the women, motherhood is a dreadful idea for career oriented women. This is one of the biggest misconstruction about motherhood that ever existed. Take an unbiased look around yourself, all the powerful women that you see are mothers. The common factor among the powerful women from different races and part of the world is, they are all mothers. From Hillary Clinton to an independent working woman somewhere in the third world, giving birth is their free choice.
Though unpaid maternity leave will seem a challenge to you but, no pain no gain right? Because in the end, it’s the reward that matters not the price you paid. Every time you return home from work, the mere smile of your baby will make you forget the fight you had with your colleague.
⦁ Am I Ready for The Commitment??
You must have heard these crazy things from mothers like ‘it takes almost 8-hours a day to raise a child in a healthy way’. If you’ve talked to a few friends or family about this confusion, they must also have ‘told stuff like ‘you will have to sacrifice your sleep, hobbies, friends and even husband’! Well I ain’t going to lie to you because you will have to, especially the sleep part is real real.
But the whole beauty of it all is, the same things are going to truly heal you. The first look you have on your baby, when you open your eyes after the long, tiresome night of rocking the baby in arms will completely reboot your soul. Don’t believe it? Ask your mother.
⦁ The opportunity of seeing the world through your baby’s eyes
Oh, this is the best part of it. So often in our lives we see things from a mature and realistic angle that we forget what naivety feels like. The kids make you see the world through a perspective of kindness, empathy and love. You must have observed rude people turning marshmallow for everyone and everything around them after becoming a parent.
Since kids are innocent and unfamiliar with selfishness, they tend to correct their parents or those around them for their harsh judgements. Seeing your kid doing righteous things or asking you for it, will also make you want to become a good person too.
⦁ Be the part of evolution
Believe it or not, we are all the part of an inevitable evolution. Motherhood will evolve you a lot faster than you imagined. You will do things that you never even thought of before. Your shopping will evolve from Sephora to Gap. The money you used to spend on cosmetics will now be spent on pacifiers and diapers.
The best part of this evolution is love. As you were wandering in search of true love, a baby is always loving you like no one. You will be the first and forever love of your baby!
Hopefully, this has helped you in getting out of the fears that’ve overwhelmed you. Know that even the beginning of the pregnancy will change your heart and brain.
Babies are gift for us from almighty. I love babies so much.
Motherhood is a natural process, it does not create any hindrance in career progress. Fear of failure in career could have other reasons than motherhood but people keep on progressing.
Although I am not a mother nor did I actually have to endure the labour part (apart from watching it happen) I absolutely LOVE this post. Having my little girl has transformed my life and I could never have imagined the love and devotion I feel for my little girl. For the first time in my life I felt complete. It must be very scary for women thinking about the troubles and turmoils of pregnancy and labor but I agree with you that the love will outshine all. I am eternally grateful to my partner for giving birth and bringing my little girl into this world.
