Today a change is happening in my life.
One my favorite managers is moving to a different store.
He and I have developed a really good working relationship.
Actually...... I'd say that we've become good friends.

This is his last day at our restaurant. He will be transferring to a different store.
It happens. You aren't guaranteed a lifetime membership at the store that you work at.
Switching around is part of it. Switching around actually helps you to go up through the ranks and become a higher ranked manager.
I hope that he has some success.
I'm going to miss our conversations though.
On Thanksgiving Day we all had to work and it was pretty miserable. This manager showed up with a giant pumpkin pie though and a bag of cookies to go along with it.
We all laughed and had pie and cookies and actually made a fun day of it.
I can't really count the conversations I've had with this manager.
Sometimes I've been feeling down over one thing or another but he always knows the right thing to say.

I know him moving to a different store doesn't mean that he'll be gone forever.
At the very least I know that I'll be able to go to the store that he switched to and visit him even though it's quite a drive.
Having said that I also know that it's the end of a chapter in my life.
There have been plenty of managers that I've been friends with that have moved on....... and even though I said I was going to maintain friendships with them....... life moves forward sometimes in a way that just doesn't allow for you to be friends with everyone.
It's frustrating and difficult to deal with.
I will miss my friend.
I'll miss talking with him and laughing with him and spending time just generally screwing around with him.
I'm sure I'll visit him a time or two but I doubt if our friendship will truly remain.
Nevertheless........ time moves on.
Change is a good thing...... but it really sucks.
Sorry you had to part ways, but hopefully you both continue to grow, and perhaps your paths will cross again :)

That's a shame. I've had friendships like that. Ones that only exist as long as a job lasts. It's a shame when the time comes for people to move on and they lose contact.
Just your luck, the next one will be even better. It could happen. Give it time.
Sorry to hear that. We actually like coming to this specific restaurant in NY , it’s a big company all over the states and I noticed there were always different people after few months. I thought to myself these people quit for other job. But this makes sense, I guess they are switching people to other restaurants just like at yours. I hope you have a fun with this new girl trainee.
Most of the servers actually stick around for a long time. The managers don't get to choose to stay though ........they have to go where the company sends them.
That’s just a part of this job. It’s sad, but it’s life. I’m sure there will be other people you will get along with well.

Great post. I will to read this post all over again and again. As day pass by, things really change because change is a constant thing that will ever be. Remembering those years of childhood . Now , change is come and those days is gone.That one friend that I need to visit but she is far away.Such is life and change is must.Thanks for your effort.

it really sucks when things change especially work colleagues you get on well with move on to another position and break up a team but new teams form quickly generally so good luck

I feel you @jeezzle. I am the same way. It is hard to find deep connections with co-workers, especially managers. It seems anytime, you get comfortable and have a good vibe in the workplace someone leaves, is transferred or the company itself may be bought out. Then you are pushed right out of your comfort zone back into the wild unknown.
This is where we learn and grow though and if your connection was authentic you will keep in touch and support one another in different ways. Thanks for sharing. The Top Gun image was perfect for this post. ✈️
I appreciate your thoughtful comment. I would like to think that we will stay in touch but the truth is there have been several managers and servers that I have felt a connection with that have simply moved on. Sometimes people just have to. I'm going to try my best to stay in touch though.
You're welcome. I know. I had some managers I stayed in touch with most of my life and others not so much. It is true sometimes people just have to move on, but we still can be so grateful for the time we had. It is the hardest when you had someone that took notice of you, believed in you and encouraged you.
