This very question has baffled me for quite some time after working for my company.
I work for a steakhouse in Texas. We have restaurants all over the world, and in fact the company in charge in my restaurant owns like 50 restaurants.
There are various members of my organization going all the way up to CEO.
In my 11 years at the company, I have met several very high up people.
There's one undeniable fact about the higher ups.
They all act like this.

They have no tolerance for anyone....... and if you don't do what they say right away they will throw a tantrum immediately.
The funny thing is that we've had quite a few managers that really do know how to talk to people.
Those managers don't really last though because they're always replaced by people that are in a hurry and only care about themselves.
I guess if you only care about yourself then you're going to care more about the company's profits than you are about people that are in trouble or need help.
Therefore you would be less likely to comp food or give things away for free.
Let's not forget that the higher up people occasionally have to fire someone.
I saw someone get fired just a couple of days ago.
Since I've been at this company for so long sometimes they even ask me advice about whether or not we should fire someone.
Nevertheless the people that are managers or general managers are usually pretty cool.
The higher up the food chain you go though the less cool you become.
It really makes no sense because its inverse to the amount of money that you make.
If I make a lot of money then I'm going to treat people like crap...... but if I don't make much then I'm going to be nice to everyone.
So that makes me wonder....
If knowing how to talk to people is so important...... then why do I see so many people that don't know how to talk to people get so far in their careers?
That's very true. It's crazy how that happens for some people. It's baffling.
Ive also seen this but i couldnt find an answer. Maybe some of them just know the right people to be there. J
That could be true. Sometimes knowing people is what it's all about.
