Everybody that knows me knows that I'm a huge fan of Science Fiction and horror.
If it takes place on a spaceship and somebody gets killed chances are I'm going to love that movie.
Exploration on a new planet is awesome.
If it involves aliens I'm almost always on board as well.

Ghosts of Mars was released during a time when several space exploration type movies were all the rage.
The year before we had seen the movies Mission to Mars and the Red Planet which both did decently..... if not great.
Those movies might not have been masterpieces but I really enjoyed both of them.
When Ghosts of Mars came out it was pretty much universally panned as being terrible despite the successes of similar seeming movies.
Ghosts of Mars has a lot going for it.
It stars Natasha Hendrick who also star in the Species movies..... which I really liked.
It also Stars Jason Statham, Pam Grier, and a whole host of other popular actors and actresses.
I was tickled to see Clea Duvall play a starring role considering that she is not very well knownr. She played Wade in one of my favorite TV shows called Sliders.

So what's wrong with Ghosts of Mars?
Well first of all there isn't anything surprising going on.
This movie is literally about a bunch of ghosts that are on Mars.
The acting from just about everyone is pretty good too.
I'd say it's a solid action flick but there's no mystery involved at all.
The set basically consists of a police station, a mining facility, and an area outside..... and that's it.
Considering all the big name actors you would have thought they would have been able to build a nicer looking set.
The plot is also just kind of dumb.
A bunch of martian ghosts come back to life and take over human bodies in order to prevent the invaders from having their planet.
It's all really hokey and that's not usually a problem for me but in this case it's hokey....... and not very good.
Now don't get me wrong...... I did like Ghosts of Mars but I can definitely see why it didn't do very well when it was released in 2001.
Unless you're a big fan of science fiction or science fiction horror then you're probably not going to like this movie very much.
However, if you're looking for a very standard action flick with Ice Cube, Natasha Hendricks, Pam Grier, and Jason Statham then you might just like it.
I'm not sure how I've never heard of this movie. Ill have to check it out, thanks for the review!
