Showering when you have roommates is no cup of hot water.

Anyone that reads my blog knows that I have two roommates.

We are three guys sharing a house together.

There are two bathrooms and a kitchen sink.......

These are the main areas where hot water will get used.

A couple of years ago the hot water heater broke and we replaced it with one that is quite likely too small.

If conditions are right you have about 7 minutes to take a hot shower.

If conditions are wrong then you have much less time than 7 minutes. Given that we all live together there are many opportunities for conditions to go wrong.

Nobody likes to take a cold shower in the winter.

Anyone that has ever had roommates knows that the moment you start your shower somebody else will decide that they also want to take a shower.

It's also at that point that someone will do a hot load of laundry and then turn on the dishwasher and also flush the toilet over and over again.

The shower is easily one of the biggest points of contention between roommates.

Of course you could say......

"Hey man didn't you know that I was just about to get in the shower?" but then again you don't exactly have exclusive shower rights either.

Anybody can shower whenever they want to. That's the beauty of living in a free society.

It's also a big drawback of having roommates. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having roommates.

In a lot of ways it's a great thing because you save money and there's always someone there to talk to about anything.......... and 100 other reasons.

However, when it comes to showering I think I'd rather live alone.

Showering when you have roommates is no cup of hot water.

Now I'm glad that we doesn't need the hot water here in my country to get a shower so I doesn't have to bother with my roommate about that. The only thing that's annoyed me for having a roommate is when it come to the moment that I need a peaceful sleep

That is definitely another concern as well.

Reading this I can say I am glad I was lucky and never had the fun of dealing with roommates and showers

But I did one Winter have two weeks with no hot water cold showers in freezing temps are only for the brave

In a situation like that I think I would fill up the bathtub and then jump in and out in a matter of seconds.

at that time I only had a shower but they were super quick showers lol

Oh man I hate having roomates lol Never again unless there's a bathroom for each of us! Maybe in Costa Rica, there you can rent a big house with lots of bathrooms for pretty cheap.

i have also two roommates..

I think my water heater is about to go out. The hot water is not staying hot in the water heater. So now I have to do a load of laundry before I take a shower, to get hot water. The woes of home ownership. Maybe it will hold up a couple months, then it won't be cold here in San Antonio Texas anymore.

You have a lot of reason, it has its positive side like saving and having someone to talk to, but really privacy is necessary, although living alone also has its counter ...

Ah yes, the joys of shared living. I only have one housemate at the moment, but we also have the same issue. Not only that, I find myself thinking 'I'll have a shower now', and almost immediately, I'll hear him go into the bathroom and use the shower. Is this mind reading or an ever present shower disaster?

They say great minds think alike but I must admit I was flabbergasted when I got in the shower at the random time of 4:00 today only to find my roommate get in immediately after me.

"...the moment you start your shower somebody else will decide that they also want to take a shower."
I'd always thought I was the only one who experienced this. Such cases sometimes lead to brief "skirmishes" leaving everyone in a sour mood on such mornings .
Showering when you have roommates is truly no cup of hot water.😁
Cheers!

I can relate to this. Many years ago I lived with 4 roommates. I was always late from work and the water was already just warm. On the weekend it was even worse with one bathroom to spare you can imagine. With two bathrooms, I think you will survive. lol

It is true that it's better with two bathrooms, however, it is winter and the cold water is not something that you really want to shower with right now.

hehe... seven minutes to take a hot shower. i wonder what bad conditions are in such a case though it's very true that roommate sometimes can be very annoying especially when taking a shower and when one is sleeping.
