Recently I was chatting with a Steemit pal @sharingeverybite about feeling "stuck" in life, where parts of your life leave you feeling like there's no forward momentum, no personal growth. You can read her original post here. We've all been there: your job, your relationship, your health, your body, your family, your financial circumstances. When aspects of your life leave you feeling unhappy, those negative emotions can begin to crowd out the good things in your life.
And yet, we often do little about it. We know that we want to change, but find every reason not to make a start (And, yes, I realize that some reasons are quite valid for not making big changes). Our quick chat got me to thinking about how difficult it is to find the motivation or the willpower to make changes in your life for the better. I experience it routinely with prospective clients in my herbalist practice, and like everyone, have dealt with it myself in my own life. So I thought that I'd make a short video to talk about what I've learned about finding motivation and the will to change.
I'll work on getting a transcript put together for my website, and will leave that in the comments sections once I get it done!

Some time ago I read about a psychological study. It was a study about motivation. They found you're far more likely to complete a big task if you take a small portion of that big task and make a goal to complete that.
For example, you need to clean your house and it's going to take three hours. So you set a much smaller goal like "I'm going to put these dishes away in the next five minutes."
This small initial goal, as it turns out, goes a long way when it comes to getting your house cleaned. Much like you were saying about taking one step at a time.
That's exactly my experience. If one can't leap into the unknown, then take baby steps instead. I use this in my practice too by setting individual goals with my clients each month. It has been a successful approach for them and for me personally.
This was a really good video. You could definitely have a successful vlog.

Wow! Thank you so much for the resteem. Your ability to reach Steemians exceeds mine, so I really appreciate your support! Videos still shy me out a bit, but I'm planning to create more of them. Leaping into the unknown.....
Great post, love seeing stuff like this where people share parts of themselves to help others. This is clearly the post I need to share with our users on Steemit Blogger Central...think it could help a lot of people. RESTEEMING this right now. Thanks for the open share like this, very powerful stuff
Thank you, and thanks for posting it on Steemit BC pages. Appreciate you!
anytime, just hope it helped
You're just as great a speaker as you are a writer! :) Loved the video. It really is about taking that one small step first and following it with more. The farther you get in a new direction, the easier it is to keep going. It's very reassuring to think that when it comes to big decisions, too.... i.e. "I'll just look for other jobs that are out there. I don't have to quit my current job tomorrow."
Thank you so much! I had to get over the sound of my own voice, which I still find amusing, in order to start making videos. And, yes, your example is just exactly what I meant, and what we were chatting about in your post about feeling stuck. It's really a deep, deep topic that affects just about everyone. It's nice to be able to engage in honest conversation about how to overcome passivity in our lives.
Lol I think we all think, "Is THAT what I sound like? OMG." They say that even if you saw your identical self walking past you, you probably wouldn't agree that it's your twin. We have such a different perception of what we see in the mirror (or hear with our own ears) compared to what reality is. Probably more true for the visual perception versus audible one since there are other factors that affect sound.
Anyway, I digress...Love having deep conversations about these things! They're very "real" and mostly kept on the DL because of that fact.
For anyone preferring to read a transcript, I've posted it to my website!
Nice post, kind of related to one I'm working on now about fear and how to overcome it, how we have kind of outgrown it. Followed !
Thanks! Let me know when you post up your overcoming fear article!
