How to improve yourself in 2018?

#1. Stop watching porn.
I’m probably going to regret writing this in public.
But I know I’m not alone in this.
You know you do it too.
And you know how addicting it is.
And how bad you want to stop once and for all.
Well, let’s stop together.
Let’s beat this disgusting addiction for good.
2018 will be the year that porn loses.

#2. Start loving myself more.
People often talk about the “Inner Critic.”
It’s the voice in your head that tells you-you're not good enough.
And that you don’t deserve her or him or it.
And to some degree, you’re a failure.
I’ve been listening to my Inner Critic for 23 years.
He’s a convincing little devil.
But he’s wrong.
I am enough—I am not a failure.
Fuck my Inner Critic. Fuck yours too.
2018 will be the year I kill my Inner Critic.

#3. Commit to something.
I have this habit of dreaming up business ideas.
I get very, very excited about these ideas.
I retreat into solitude to create a master plan for these ideas.
Plans that will bring them to life!
These plans are detailed—full marketing strategies, websites, everything.
And after a few weeks of executing my Grand Idea, I get bored.
I stop loving the Grand Idea.
I see its faults and decide to move on.
Do you see the problem with this pattern of mine?

NOTHING EVER GETS DONE.
I call this pattern Mental Masturbation.
It’s a horrible pattern.
2018 will be the year I break this pattern.

#4. Leave my parent’s house for good.
I moved home when I graduated from school two Decembers ago.
Then I moved to Eastern Europe for two months.
Then I lived in Colombia for four months.
Then I moved back home.
I’ve been home since November 2017.
It is February 2018 as I write this, which means I’ve been home for four months.
I am a 23-year-old dude living with his parents in his childhood home.
The comfort and complacency and lethargy is killing me.
So I’m moving to Bali in 9 days.
I plan to stay there for the year but plans change.
Either way.
I will not return for more than a few weeks for the holidays.
2018 will be the year I embrace living on my own.

#5. Write consistently.
I love romanticizing being a writer.
“I’m going to write every day,” I tell myself.
“If I write 300 words a day for 365 days straight, that’ll be 109,500 words.”
“That’s almost two novels!”
“Wow, if I do this I’d be such a committed writer.”
“Such a noble, selfless writer.”
The problem is I never end up writing anything.
If I do start writing, I usually quit after a few weeks (see #3).
The sad part is writing is one of the only things that makes me feel good.
I’m afraid of spending tons of time writing if no one’s listening.
My analytical side tells me this would be a colossal waste.
But you shouldn’t write for other people.
You should write for yourself, right?
2018 will be the year I write for myself.

#6. Get stronger.
I’ve been working out for seven years.
I made no progress in my physique for 5 of these seven years.
I made every mistake imaginable—fell for every trick in the book.
“Focus on high reps and low weight to get striations,” they told me.
“You gotta shock the body with supersets and drop sets.”
“Focusing on strength won’t get you bigger.”
Well, guess what.
I’ve spent the last three months focusing on strength.
And holy shit, I’ve made more progress than I have in half-a-decade!
2018 will be the year I focus on getting stronger.
