RE: History of U.S. Income Tax

in #life8 years ago (edited)

A nice write-up, which establishes the important need for taxes despite the burden it can place on all of us.

The taxes I pay are equal to the social security my mother receives from her retirement and disability paychecks, so it kind of feels like I am giving money to my sick mother.

That being said - I can't help but feel exploited when taxpayer money is being used to fund things like the prison industrial complex, corporate welfare, and immense tax breaks are given to people who can break the system.

Way cool perspective! Seriously.

You are not alone. Nobody likes to waste money. I see it as a good system, with checks and balances, that needs a lot of work and diligent care. We need taxes for many things, but should not go overboard and definitely never accept fraud/waste (which is why we have prisons ...).

Yes, thankfully fraudulence is recognized and penalized whenever capable. When I say prison industrial complex I merely refer to conflict of interest between for-profit prisons and government interaction, prisons are very necessary regardless for the proceedings of criminal justice throughout the world.

Thank you for your insights!

Ah, I have not looked into the for-profit prison situation. I hear it is messy.
