A few years ago we learned how dangerous coffee consumption can be. Now, there a several studies showing the opposite – benefits of coffee. The hot beverage contains a variety of active ingredients such as antioxidants and caffeine. And it is the most consumed beverage with caffeine, the bitter psychoactive substance, which can have positive and negative effects on our bodies. But it's generally agreed, that a caffeine consumption of ~400mg per Day (2 cups of strong coffee, for 75kg grown up) has no negative effects.
#1 Coffee has been proven to improve your memory: researcher from Johns Hopkins have shown that 200mg caffeine (1 cup of strong coffee) has a positive effect on reducing forgetting over 24hours
#2 Coffee has protective qualities against diseases like Parkinson's, diabetes type II, cardiovascular diseases and even cancer
#3 Coffee relieves pain: the vasoconstrictive effect of caffeine reduces headache and after workout pain
#4 Coffee helps preventing depressions: Caffeine increases the level of dopamine receptors, what has positive effects on mood, but is it also the reason for coffee addiction (same mechanism as with heroin, but weaker)
#5 Coffee enhances basic cognitive functions such as reaction time
Moderate amounts are 3-4 cups of coffee for grown-ups, but of course pregnants and children should avoid caffeine.
