This is so very important. My only regret is that it was taboo to speak this openly when I was young. I have seen the devastating results of failing to follow the course of moral purity in many people. What they originally thought was freedom and breaking away from the shackes of moral behaviour, has turned out to be an incarceration that they wade through daily and binds them exponentially more than the so-called freedom they originally sought.
I am trying to help a young child break a nightmare existence and parental abuse from parents of three kids who are still not married.
Graham Nash wrote these immortal words in the song Teach your Children
You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good-bye.
Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.
And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.
Wow what a great comment. And that song now has a lot more meaning to me....just listened to it while reading the lyrics. How many times I've listened to it without taking in the meaning as I should have.
Thanks again for this comment!
All the best with your efforts with the kids you're helping
Strangely enough was just watching a Crosby, Stills & Nash DVD a few days ago, and keep finding myself whistling the tunes!
Its such a classic. I remember many years ago at a talent show, four of us got together in the dressing room and tried the harmonies. It was unforgettable!
How's this version live in Australia done by the street musicians "Playing for Change". Makes my hair stand on end!!
