Every human being has this unyielding tenacity to always follow through on whom they believe they are.
Our actions and responses in life are always consistent with who we believe ourselves to be. It is often said that the strongest force in the human personality is the need to stay focused to their definition of themselves.
If you define yourself as a very active person with a lot of energy, you are definitely not going to act as a weak inactive person.
But, most a times, a lot of people often define themselves as a tough person that hardly feel remorse which is related to what we see in the business world today but sometimes they get drunk and then act as the most loving person in the world and most a times you hear them say, it’s the alcohol.
But the truth is that, that is just who they are. They probably missed themselves so much after being cooked up in they believe of who they should be that they just wanted permission to be themselves, and they blame it on the alcohol.
Almost always, lots of people tend to define themselves based on the expectations of others, or based on the kind of personality needed for what they want.
Most a times I have heard companies or firms say that they need really tough and no remorse or little remorse personality for they kind of work and you see a lot of people changing their personality, their identity, just to get the job.
The sad thing is that, people like that often become drunks or find any other thing they can use as excuse to be themselves and they are rarely happy.
I have this neighbor, who hardly talk at work but whenever he gets drunk which is mostly often, he can talk you to death and whenever you refers to it, he simply says it’s because of the drink but the reality is that he is actually a talkative person, he loves talking.
It’s who he is but he has created a different personality for himself and had believed that that’s who he is all for the sake of the job.
Identity is by far, the first step to becoming anything in life, you need to actually identify who you really are, what personality is truly you.
A lot of us, a long time ago in our lives has formed a set of beliefs about what we are capable of and who we are and this beliefs control us, they created for us the identity we have now and most of this fake identity often become a limitation in our lives. Allow me to use this vivid example a friend of mine used.
In a circus, you see a giant elephant and then you see them take a tiny rope and a small stake and hold this elephant to the ground and you look at this elephants and you know they can pull down a house with almost no effort and yet they don’t struggle to escape from that little stake because they have been conditioned.
They take them while they are still babies and put a big rope around their neck and peg it down on a really big stick and the elephant fights and fights with it until one day, it finally decides that it’s not capable of pulling itself free.
Most people has formed our beliefs in life much like this elephant, and once it becomes our identity, they just don’t try anymore, they just accept it as who they are and that’s how they life is.
I want you to take a look at the identity you have today, and the limitations they pose to your life, I mean, you don’t eat well because you believe you don’t have the luxury to eat well or you don’t do business because you believe you are not good in business.
I was like that too, I had this belief that I’m not good in business and believe me, I was never good in business. Now, consciously ask yourself, “When did I decide to accept this things about myself”
Most of us might not even see it as a limitation, we just see it as who we are.
Most often, we have adapted to a kind of way of life either to please someone or to be accepted. But the truth remains that true joy comes from being ourselves.
This is where the issue lies. A lot of us, don’t even know who we are.
But you will agree with me that some a times we feel really good about ourselves when we do things spontaneously without even thinking because that’s when we often express who we are.
We feel a sudden burst of energy from doing the unexpected because it’s mostly outside of the identity we have about ourselves, it’s an expression of who we truly are.
When we do this, when we connect to our true self, when we realize our true identity, we feel the energy and need to set the standard for what we want in our lives, and that’s when we can become successful.
