Oktoberfest has become known as a tradition of celebrating beer and bratwursts in Munich, Germany. But if you're not able to make it to Germany this year, here are some other locations around the world that are celebrating too, and you're sure to have a good time.
Dublin, Ireland. For 18 days, Dublin celebrates with German food, fun and games, and a ton of beer. The central location is at George's Dock, or any pub in Temple Bar will be happy to celebrate with you. There is an admission fee on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Located just 1.5 hours from Toronto, the festivities include over 40 events like 'Oktoberlicious' in which guests can sample Canadian dishes, participate in a treasure hunt, attend the Miss Oktoberfest Gala Ball, or just stop in at one of the many 'beer halls.'
Blumenau, Brazil. During this 17-day celebration, around 700,000 guests come through every year. This tradition began in 1984 as a way for the city to raise funds to build itself back up after a major flood, and also to cheer people up from the devastation they just experienced.
Hong Kong. With several locations throughout Hong Kong participating in Oktoberfest, one stop is Happy Wednesday's at Happy Valley. They celebrate with German-style music and a horse race. Or you may also find yourself at the Royal Park Hotel Oktoberfest Party, trying some authentic German cuisine. Guests also join in activities at the Marco Polo German Bierfest event.
Brisbane, Australia. Guests dress up in German attire, and head to the Brisbane Showgrounds to embrace the German culture with music, food, and beer. The Kinder Zone also has activities for guests including a street science display, Glockenspiel lessons, an animal farm, and carnival rides.
Tokyo, Japan. Located at Hibiya Park, Oktoberfest is celebrated for 10 days with authentic German musicians and beer. Guests can expect to pay 1,000 yen for a beer glass, which gets refunded when you return the glass at the end of the event. Since seating fills up rather quickly, try to come early if you can.
