Habits That Kill Productivity

in #life8 years ago (edited)

We all have our 24 hours, And yet some people get so much more done then others. Why is that? We may think we are productive; We scrape at our brain trying to understand why we're aren’t getting things done. But we still can’t seem to figure out why. Here are some habits that can kill your ability to be productive.

Not Automating Certain tasks.

We do a lot of the same things everyday, Don’t believe me? Keep track and see.
Your day repeats over and over again. We continue to waste our precious minutes on repetitive tasks that we could potentially get rid of by automation.
Have you heard of the app called IF, Or IFTTT
If this then that.

You can automate many aspects of your digital life, like if you like to save the things you post on Facebook into your Evernote… Done!
You can even add your recipes.
As far as digital life goes, Some answers can be in black and white, While others in real life, Are more complicated. How do you automate your vacuuming? Possibly one of those self-vacuumers. Can you automate your budgeting, Using an app, Such as Mint?
Think hard, And look for resources. Automation can help make your life less busy.

Having Too Many Options.

So many people are indecisive these days, And who could blame them? We have so many more decisions then we have ever had before! Hundreds if not, Thousands of food choices at our fingertips.
Thousands of brands, Scents, and looks. We also have a lot of life choices. These days our roles in life aren’t clear cut. Women can have careers; Marriage is optional. So are raising children. You have the flexibility. But lIke everything in life it comes at a cost,
It can be hard to choose. And these things can slow you down to getting what you want out of your life.
Before you know it a year or two slips by. Or even just 10 minutes as you are deciding on what toppings to have on your next pizza.
Can you cut out some options? Have a planner and plan your day, So you know exactly what is expected of you. Flip a coin for your pizza toppings if you can’t decide.
( They have to flip a coin apps. LOL)

Too long of a To-Do List

I’m very guilty of this one, Many of us tend to overload our to-do lists. Full of tasks we may never even get around to. We have the best intentions. These are things we WANT TO accomplish Right? Well going to bed every night seeing your hardly finished To-Do list, Isn’t good for your Morale. You may not try as hard tomorrow. I’m not saying you should give yourself an easy list either. But Make it the right size.
Don’t overload yourself. Try to think of what you can reasonably accomplish in one day and go from there.

Not Having A Routine.

Ever heard of Habit Stacking? This involves doing a variety of habits in a synchronized manner to produce maximum results from your day. Not having a Routine can be hard for your to get things done, Because you may sit in confusion on what to do next. This wastes valuable time. Try to have a set routine to help you get through your day.

Social Media

For some of us, It’s for fun, For others, though, It’s for business. But either way, you should try to limit your social media consumption. Unless of course, it’s Steemit. Because you gain more value from this site than any other. But still, if Steemit is interfering with your outside goals, You should do what you can to establish boundaries. Maybe you aren’t allowed to go on social media during certain hours of the day. If you need a blocking system because your addiction is too much, Try an app called Rescue Time. You can set it up, so it automatically blocks certain sites at certain hours of the day.

Clutter

This can be digital or physical clutter, When your home and computer aren’t clean and organized, It can be difficult for you to do what you need to do. You may have to dig for an item that is buried in your closet. Or Search your whole computer for a file. Take a couple of days off and clean up your life.

Perfectionism

Are you a perfectionist? I’m sorry to say that it can often be a bad thing. Expecting everything to be 100% perfect can hurt your ability to produce great results. It’s important for you to be okay with flaws once in a while. Try to do lots of things good, But not amazing. That will allow you to get more done in your day.

Waiting for the “PERFECT TIME”

This one drives me NUTS!
Everyone is all waiting for the “perfect time”.
I’ll do that “later.”
I’ll do that when I can “afford” it.
Sorry to burst your bubble, But if you aren’t actively preparing for it, Or doing it already, Chances are. You won’t do it.
There is never a perfect time to do something. You may think you need a less busy schedule to publish your “Book.” But guess what? You’ll be busier down the road, And it will never get done. Start taking action now. Write 100 words a day, Just do SOMETHING.

Great post.....You have to own your time and not let the time own you.

Exactly hehe!

Great post. It's important to focus on tasks that are going to help you achieve your goals. I have been meaning to check out IFTTT. Thanks for the reminder.

Sometimes you just have stick to the task at hand :)

Yes!!

I could hear that yes from miles away! Followed :)

LOL Thank you ! Following you too :)

Nice insight. upvoted followed.

Thank you hhee!

You're welcome.

Let's make steemit as our way to know each other :)

Yes lets :)

Social media...including Steemit!

Steemit is not social media, it is more of a community and far more addictive.

agreed hehe ;)

Of course its social media. What else is it? Community? LOL!
Disagree it's any more addictive than others.

I have this problem now, I legit have like 6,000 things that I have or need to do, but can never seem to finish them. lmao

Make a small to do list, and go through them one by one hehe. :)

Haha Good idea, I may need to invest in a dry-erase board the size of a wall and then schedule a day to write down my to-do list...then another day to organize my to-do list...then another day to.......uh-oh.

LOL!! That would be a big white board XDD OMG whole days managing your list lol.

Ok, ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. lol

Thanks for this thoughtful article! So many valid points...love the clutter paragraph. There's nothing quite so settling as a good decluttering session.
