I hear and read about a lot of beautiful motivational messages that speaks about how we need to be broken in order to be healed. That our scars from the past make us who we are. To embrace our wounds.
This quote about the crack is where the light enters is often used to give meaning and purpose for our pain and brokenness.
Let me humbly and respectfully push back on this. I disagree.
Before I get berated about not knowing brokenness, let me first say that I do. First hand and not once but many times. Here's why I don't wear it like a badge.
Firstly it's NOT a bloody competition. How broken we are doesn't make us super enlightened. There's no first, second and third placement on this.
Second, God an infinitely compassionate and all powerful force doesn't need to break us to heal us. We were never broken to begin with. We just forgot who we are. So when something breaks us, our false sense of security or truth breaks, revealing the light that was ever present. Hence your #CrackIsWhereTheLightEnters.
Third, glorifying pain for reward is another one of those sick trade offs that keeps us trapped in the drama cycle - Victim, Perpetrator, Saviour. Someone has to play the part for us to be the victim, for us to then rise to the challenge and be a savior. We then look for people to save and perpetrators to fight. It's an insidious cycle.
So what do I have to say about all the atrocities that's in our world. Sure kids didn't create abuse. Why does it happen? No one created abuse, it is the result of an insidious cycle.
We can however wake up from it. Heal from the pain of the past, and embrace the light once again. Embracing what was always ours.
The gratitude we give is for remembering the light once again, for clarity in sight and chains released. Not for the pain and scars themselves.

It is really sad that some people use their overcome brokenness to elevate themselves.
However that being said, there IS a toothless roaring lion that constantly tries to pounce on often "forgetful victims" just to make them destroy themselves. That is very true, and only the Savior can end this destructive cycle.
(not self declared savior though 😊)
Great to see you around again and your post got noticed!

It's true, our best nature doesn't always win, but it is never truly lost either.
