Are you living the dream or making someone else's dream come true?

It's that moment where you have just graduated and you are feeling relieved that you accomplished one of the milestones in your life. The next thing you know, you are rewarding yourself by going on a vacation with your friends and having the time of you life for the next few months and then it suddenly hits you. As a "responsible " person, you are suddenly filled with the thoughts that you would actually need to be making money for your future and you can't decide what type of job you are going to do.

You also realized that dreams are far away from reality as people often don't do what they like to survive rather they do what they need to survive. You are considering whether you should either get a 9-5 job which requires you using your diploma or degree and devoting yourself to an organization under the leadership of someone else or you would want to work on your own passion and have flexible timing while still making a decent living. The first choice which is getting a 9-5 job is often the path that most people take, however, not all of them enjoy what they are doing and are just looking for a way out. It has never been easy to make a choice as there are many different risks associated with the second choice as there is no guarantee with self employment where you either make it or you break it.

When I first completed my studies where I acquired my degree in Marketing, I had already decided that I would be taking the second path which is self-employment. For me, uncertainty does create a lot of excitement and thrill which is what makes life interesting. I would try as hard as possible not to settle for a 9-5 job which is why I started my own youtube channel doing life hacks and science experiments. After a few months, I realized that I was unable to make enough of money to sustain my lifestyle as i was barely earning anything due to the lack of popularity of my channel. I needed a change of plan where I had to improvise to survive in the short term and I started trading cryptocurrencies for a living. Everything was fine at first and I was making a decent amount of money till the market crashed and I had losses. It was at that moment that I realized that I had to do something, I started learning about trading and I just refused to give up as it would mean I needed to get a 9-5 job. After some time, I started earning much more than I did previously as I improved my trading strategy learning from experts who upload videos in youtube and also reading articles on investment strategies. After that, I found this great website named Steemit and decided that I would love to write to earn some side income and I will continue looking for other ways to earn more money. This website is definitely great as it allows you to make money on the spot.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless and there are so many opportunities out there waiting for us to grab them. All we have to do is make a choice and consider how to execute the plan properly. Let's compare both of the choices we have.

Self-Employment

  1. FUN- Yes, you have read correctly. Fun is often the missing in normal jobs, where some people who follow their passion might be earning money while they are having lots of fun.

  2. Time- Having flexible timing does help when you need to get things done. You can always choose when you want to work, however, discipline is necessary.

  3. Authority- In self-employment, you are the BOSS. You will have to do everything from planning and carrying out the tasks based on what you are doing

  4. Income- You could be making large sums of money or making very little money which clearly depends on your capability to adapt to changes.

5.Risks- Sometimes, self-employment requires you to fork out capital to invest in yourself to succeed however, the results are never guaranteed.

Employment

  1. Lower Risks- Employment at an organization provides stable income and has lesser risks as they do not require to take out capital for their jobs

  2. Income- Fixed income with annual bonuses. Dependency on income is easier as the flow of income is stable. Increments are also given on a yearly basis where income gradually increases over the years.

  3. Employee benefits- Company provides benefits such as medical insurance, company trips, and many other different types of other benefits.

  4. Tasks- Tasks are more routine and specific jobs are given to an employee where he or she is responsible for a certain job and has deadlines to complete them.

Nevertheless, there is no better path, however, there is always a path that can be chosen based on passion and timely consideration to determine which path is best for you and also you have to make the decision by yourself as you are the only one responsible for the outcome of your choices. Hope to see you in my next posts.
