How would you feel if you have a coworker like this?

It was a normal day and I was casually talking to the one I love the most. She's got a coworker who befriended her to take advantage of her workwise. She's typically a loner and desired friends so much that they manipulated and buttered her up for years until they're all the friends she's got. Let's name the person as 'Rick'.

Just a few months ago, Rick made a gargantuan error that may jeopardize his job, so my person had to cover up for him. But Rick blamed everything on her and blabbed to their boss. To defend herself, she had to tell everything that Rick has done in the past, because apparently, it's not the first time that she covered up for him. Afterwards, Rick became mad and she apologized. Rick played her in his hands that she thinks she couldn't have any other friend like him.

Fast-forward to yesterday, their boss decided to give everyone a standard annual pay instead of their hourly wage before. Rick was mad and decided to form a labor union that would oppose this. He made my person organize this group because everyone likes and listens to her. Today, Rick said that he surpringly is still in the hourly salary and may be ditching this union all in all.

In my opinion, Rick the snake was trying to get rid of my person due to jealousy. She's younger than him but is in a higher position and wage group. Now, we're thinking of ways on how to deal with him. What're your thoughts on this Steemians?

I'm just some random person on the internet, so I'll be frank.

  1. You need to see if the person you love the most actually sees Rick as just a friend. From the way you described Rick and her covered up for him, I don't think there's any reason one would go so far to sacrifice one's mental health and career for some "best" friends. It might be worthwhile to understand their relationship before you attempt to help your girl. If she does not have a crush or secretly in love with Rick, then you might go ahead and help. Otherwise, don't get involved in a romantic workplace relationship.
  2. If you are her significant other, and after you have verified that she is indeed being manipulated by a friend, you can suggest your girl to cut off contact with Ricky, either slowly or immediately. The less she associates with him, the less likely she'll get dragged into his bullshits.
  3. She needs some other friends than Rick so she can have some allies at work. There are people who can manipulate others to their side to isolate their target, and your girl should preemptively avoid being isolated at work. It makes doing your job very difficult. Since you said "everyone likes and listens to her", I'm assuming this won't be too hard.
  4. Your girl needs to make herself valuable to the company. Have her comes up with simple and executable ideas and do it on her own time. If she's making money, no sane management would get rid of her based on some guy's opinion of her. In addition, doing more work would give her an excuse to not do anything Rick asks her. "Sorry, Rick, I'm too busy right now", "I got work, maybe later", "That's a good idea, you should ask A or B, I'm too swarmed".

There is one inconsistent description that you have. On first paragraph, you mentioned "she's a typical loner and desired friends", yet on the fourth, you said "everyone likes and listens to her". This is not adding up for me. If everyone listens to her, she should be in a power position, not Rick. I'm not getting the entire picture because I'm not you but you should see if your love is blinding you to some other unexplored angles of this issue.

She doesnt go out and hang out with people. But she's kind and softspoken so she doesn't normally interact with then unless needed. Got a certain charisma too, so she's well liked. Thanks for your input! We're having a hard time dealing with this.

I wish you guys the best of luck. Soft spoken people tend to be brushed over while being loud and obnoxious gets the credit. Hopefully her company will treat her well despite that Rick guy.

stop saving him and just wait it out and let him hang himself, as it sounds like he'll most likely do in relatively short order
