Yup, I'm not kidding! It was the world's longest sundae, a record set in 2016!
Welcome to the beautiful little town of Nashville, Michigan! Where Good Time Pizza serves some of the best pies and Shirly's Chuck Wagon puts down the greatest cinnamon roll pancakes and breakfast burritos in the world!
After a two year duel with Ludington, Michigan and the House of Flavors, Nashville arose victorious, partnered by MooVille, in 2016 with an amazing display!
Mooville, a family-owned and operated ice cream parlor, provided all of the delicious desserts including the vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, sliced strawberries, whipped cream, and cherries. And believe me, it was worth the wait!
At first, it looked like we were going to be rained out since Septembers in Michigan are hardly the sunniest or dry. But luck was with us when the weather cleared several minutes before the scooping would begin!
And there was much doling to be had! In raingutter like vessels stretched along many tables, the volunteers dropped the vanilla treat as fast as they could, helping each other as they went. Each person was given a section to fill and as they finished filling, immediately another would come behind them, ladling out strawberries or chocolate. Still a third person came along after with whipped cream and another with cherries, finishing the entire length in about five to ten minutes.
That's over 3,600 feet of ice creamy goodness!
Once done, and all the video evidence and measurements taken, the crowd which lined both sides of the street and actually the whole way through the town was told to dig in!
And dig in, we did!
We were all given at the beginning a small bowl and a spoon. Normally, the proper technique for getting ice cream is with a scoop or large spoon. But the flimsy little plastic spoons we had were no match for the daunting dessert. So how did we get it?
Scoop with the bowl of course!
I think I filled my bowl three times (it was pretty small) by the time we called it quits. Good thing I didn't each lunch that day. The cherries didn't stand a chance and I think I took down at least twenty of them.
Dinner that night didn't really happen.
But the aftermath of the deliciousness speaks for itself!
We even had a visit from a hungry Maple Valley Lion!
